The Medical Research Council Centre of Research Excellence in Restorative Neural Dynamics (MRC CoRE RND; www.rnd.ac.uk) is a flagship research enterprise that is focused on harnessing the moment-to-moment interactions between nerve cells (‘neural dynamics’) to transform medical device-based therapy for brain conditions. We are looking for an experienced Biomedical Services Facility Manager who can collaborate with MRC CoRE RND researchers based at the Brain Network Dynamics Unit (BNDU) and support them to deliver neuroscience research aligned to the MRC CoRE RND vision.

The post holder will provide specialist technical support to the MRC CoRE RND/BNDU research projects that use animals (small rodents). The post holder will ensure the smooth and efficient running of the BNDU’s small Biomedical Services Facility (BSF) and associated procedure rooms, ensuring facility and user compliance with international, national and local regulations and guidelines on the use of animals in research. The post holder will work with foresight and integrity, independently making decisions in their areas of expertise. They will perform the duties of Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer (NACWO) for the BNDU BSF. They will carry out regulated procedures and help train and assess researchers to do likewise.

The post holder will lead the BSF support team, which includes a BSF Research Technician, and will be based at the BNDU’s main site on Mansfield Road. The BSF support team works closely and collaboratively with all the MRC CoRE RND/BNDU groups that use animals as part of their original research into the function and dysfunction of brain circuits. Current research projects supported by the BSF use mice and/or rats and employ innovative electrophysiological, imaging, anatomical, behavioural and genetics-based techniques to address their respective scientific aims.

The post holder will report to the Professor Andrew Sharott, the Associate Director of the MRC CoRE RND. The post holder will be expected to line manage the BSF Research Technician.

This post is fixed-term until 31st October 2032 in the first instance, with an initial probationary period, and is available from 1st November 2026.
