Position: General Maintenance / Maintenance Technician
Location: The Highland Club, St. Benedicts Abbey, Fort Augustus, Scotland, PH32 4DE
Employer: The Santon Group
Pay: £30,000.00 - £38,000.00 per year (varied based on experience)
Salary will vary based on skills and experience. Shared accommodation available.

The Highland Club is a prestigious holiday resort set within a historic former Benedictine Abbey on the shores of Loch Ness. We are seeking a proactive, skilled, and reliable Maintenance Person to join our team and help ensure our apartments and facilities remain safe, well-maintained, and guest-ready at all times.
About the Role:
Working closely with the Resort Manager and operational teams, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the property, ensuring that guests enjoy a safe, comfortable, and exceptional stay. This is a varied role requiring practical maintenance skills, attention to detail, and a flexible, problem-solving approach.
Key Responsibilities
Property & Facilities Maintenance
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections across apartments.
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues reported by guests, housekeeping, or reception teams.
- Undertake basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, and general repair tasks where qualified and appropriate.
- Conduct regular property checks to identify and address maintenance requirements before they impact guests.
- Ensure all facilities remain clean, safe, operational, and presented to a high standard.
Operational Support
- Work closely with reception, housekeeping, and management teams to coordinate maintenance activities with minimal disruption to guests.
- Assist with apartment inspections and ensure units are ready for guest arrivals.
- Support emergency responses, including power outages, severe weather events, and unforeseen property incidents.
Contractor Management
- Liaise with external contractors and service providers when required.
- Monitor contractor work to ensure it is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
- Report major repairs or ongoing maintenance concerns to management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Support the implementation of health and safety procedures across the resort.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report any hazards or safety concerns immediately.
- Participate in emergency procedures and property safety checks.
Inventory & Asset Management
- Monitor maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with ordering materials and maintaining adequate stock levels.
- Receive and organise maintenance-related deliveries.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Language skills – English language at minimum level B1
- Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, handyman, or property management role.
- Good working knowledge of general building maintenance.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and respond effectively to urgent issues.
- Full UK driving licence [?]
Desirable
- Experience within hospitality, hotels, holiday parks, or serviced accommodation.
- Relevant trade qualifications.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Experience working with contractors and external suppliers.
