Description

Full Time, 37 Hour per week. Fixed term, initially to 31 March 2027.
Connect ideas. Unlock growth. Innovation without the jargon.

Wigan and Leigh businesses are full of ideas. This role helps turn those ideas into practical action by exploring how Wigan & Leigh College, and the wider Greater Manchester network, can help provide the skills necessary to make them a reality.
As Innovation Connector at Wigan & Leigh College, you’ll work with local employers, especially small to medium enterprises, to help them understand how innovation, digital tools, AI, process improvement and skills support could improve productivity and growth. You’ll be the person who opens the right doors to what our college can offer by asking the right questions and then connecting them to the right part of our offer, either at Wigan & Leigh or from the Greater Manchester Innovation Network.
This is a role for someone who can move confidently between stakeholders and understand the differing needs of each. You’ll need commercial credibility, strong relationship-building skills and the ability to make complex support feel simple, useful and human.

What you'll do

  • Identify and engage local businesses, with a focus on employers who have the potential to improve productivity through innovation, digital adoption, process improvement and workforce development.
  • Provide impartial advice and connect employers with the right support from the College and the wider Greater Manchester Innovation Network, helping them access opportunities that meet their needs.
  • Work with colleagues across the College and the Greater Manchester network to build strong partnerships and make effective use of the support available to local businesses.
  • Represent the College across the network, collaborating with stakeholders and helping to create a positive culture of innovation.
  • Plan, support and deliver events for employers, network stakeholders and College colleagues, helping people understand the Innovation Connector initiative in practical and accessible ways.
  • Deliver clear impact against stretching targets, helping local businesses develop the innovation and workforce solutions they need for the future.

What you'll bring

  • A degree-level qualification, or significant professional experience, in business, innovation, skills, enterprise or a related field.
  • Experience of working directly with, or within, businesses to support growth, change, innovation or workforce development.
  • The ability to spot opportunities and help businesses understand the skills and workforce development they need in a changing landscape.
  • The ability to plan and deliver workshops that engage participants, explain complex ideas clearly and inspire action.
  • Experience of building stakeholder networks, understanding different needs and making effective connections that create value.
What you're like
  • Credible. You have the confidence to engage employers, understand their context and build trust.
  • Curious. You ask effective questions and take time to understand what sits underneath the issue.
  • Practical. You can turn broad ideas into clear, useful next steps that make sense to a business.
  • Connected. You build relationships quickly and know when to bring other people into the conversation.
  • Organised. You can manage outreach, events, action plans, referrals, records and reporting without losing the thread.
  • Resilient. You can work with targets, ambiguity and changing priorities while staying focused on delivery.
Essentials
  • You'll need an enhanced DBS check.
  • You're committed to safeguarding and inclusion.
  • You can travel across our sites.
  • You're flexible and happy to work beyond standard hours when needed to support the college.
