Full job description

We are a busy pub/hotel, with 15 rooms, 6 self-catering apartments, a busy bar and kitchen and around 30 staff in the Lake District looking for a General Manager.

We cater mainly for hikers and climbers, many coming to climb England's highest mountain, as well as visitors to the head of the remote and unspoilt Wasdale valley, which also boasts the deepest lake and smallest church in England.

Live in possible, suitable also for couples who both want jobs.

We are looking for a general manager that leads by example and shows visible presence amongst the teams to get the best out of our employees. The manager must have experience in the field and prove that he/she has the qualities necessary to do the job.

The qualities the candidates must show:

  • Understanding of the different departments to lead them.
  • Excellent communication skills at all business level.
  • Ensure that service delivery standards are achieved in the bar, in the kitchen, in the hotel.
  • Adaptability and must be comfortable with making decisions.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment and industry.
  • Understanding of stock control and GP to maintain financial levels.
  • Contagious pride in running an iconic Inn with 170 years' history in the Lake District.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily hotel operations, ensuring exceptional guest services and satisfaction.
  • Manage and lead the hotel staff, fostering a positive work environment and promoting teamwork.
  • Handle human resources functions, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance hotel performance and profitability.
  • Maintain effective communication with guests and staff, addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Utilize multilingual skills to cater to a diverse clientele, enhancing the overall guest experience.
