Guardianship Manager

Edinburgh, head office (Swanston) full time £35,000 - £39,000 per annum, depending on experience

About us

Academic Families is an Edinburgh-based international education consultancy, supporting families around the world whose children study at leading UK boarding schools. We are looking for an experienced people manager, preferably with safeguarding / school experience to lead our Guardianship team, taking full ownership of our Care Managers and Admin team, while holding a personal caseload and playing a key role in our safeguarding and accreditation standards.

What you'll do

  • Manage and develop the Guardianship Care Managers and Admin team, holding weekly 1:1s with each direct report
  • Manage the Host Recruitment Manager and ensure recruitment keeps pace with hosting requirements
  • Hold your own caseload of students while overseeing the wider team's caseloads
  • Ensure travel, welfare and pastoral records are accurate and up to date, and resolve pastoral concerns as they arise
  • Manage the Swanston office and key processes – duty rota, student holiday forms, and shared inboxes
  • Manage relationships with schools, hosts, parents and students, including Meet and Greet events and annual student visits
  • Provide 24/7 support as part of the emergency out-of-hours rota
  • Support AEGIS and BSA re-accreditation standards and team training

What we're looking for

  • Proven people management experience, ideally within education, welfare or guardianship
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities calmly
  • A warm, professional manner with students, parents and schools, and strong written communication
  • Comfortable holding out-of-hours safeguarding responsibility as part of a rota

Hours

This is a full-time role - 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 9am – 5pm with 30 minutes for lunch, Monday to Friday but may vary and flexibility may be required at busy times. It is anticipated to be busier during term time and quieter during school holidays.

Leave entitlement: 31 days holiday + 2 days volunteering pa.
