We're looking for an energetic, customer focused and proactive person to come on board at Mango. We are looking for someone who will be a long-term member of our team– we hire people we see potential in to trust them with responsibility and to grow. This is a great opportunity for someone who wishes to learn, develop and progress their career in restaurant management.

You’ll be joining the Mango Portswood restaurant, one of two independently owned bars & eateries in Southampton serving delicious Thai Tapas and original, exciting cocktails. You will be responsible for running day-to-day operational aspects of the restaurant including supporting the manager in recruitment, training, stock management, cash management, and all aspects of health and safety. But first and foremost running great shifts on the floor and giving our guests a great experience will be your priority.

Your duties will include:

  • Assisting in the running of daily front and back of house operations working in synchrony with our kitchen team including managing staff rotas, stock, ordering, and customer bookings
  • Creating and maintaining a feel-good, energetic atmosphere in the restaurant
  • Championing Mango’s high standard, ensuring an excellent level of customer service
  • Ensuring the venue is always clean, organised, and presentable, in line with health & safety standards
  • Training & coaching the team to ensure they meet the brand standards & achieve their potential
  • Step into key management responsibilities when required
  • Working with senior management to drive sales and accomplish business objectives
  • Opportunity for the right candidate to diversify role within customer experience management, social media, marketing, and event management

As our ideal assistant manager, you’ll be:

  • happy and smiley– a natural with customers
  • passionate about delivering a fun and friendly customer experience
  • customer-focused and lead from the front
  • comfortable working on the floor, banging out cocktails behind the bar, or jumping in the kitchen to help plate up
  • proactive, driven and organised, a problem solver with a keen eye for detail
  • have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • be commercially aware, innovative, and excited to help grow an independent company.

What’s in it for you?

  • a fast-paced, fun, and professional working environment
  • working with a close-knit team of like-minded people
  • support and on the job training
  • opportunities to progress within the role and business
  • flexible shift patterns
  • free meals on shift
  • 30% staff discount
  • gratuities in cash and through our tronc system
  • optional company pension

Requirements for the role:

  • You must have previous supervisory experience, preferably within a restaurant, but we will also consider applicants from a bar or busy cafe environment.
  • Minimum 25 hours per week (up to 35 available dependent on bookings and cover shifts) including evenings, weekends, and the holidays, with the ability to be flexible on working days. Standard working week: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays

If this sounds like an opportunity for you, then we look forward to hearing from you!
