Industrial Buyer

Inverness

Full Time | 37.5 Hours per Week

Shape Our Supply Chain. Influence Supplier Relationships. Keep Scotland's Businesses Moving.

Great buying isn't just about placing orders—it's about making commercial decisions that ensure customers have the products they need, when they need them.

At MacGregor Industrial Supplies, we're proud to be Scotland's leading independent industrial supplier. We work with some of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers, supporting thousands of customers across construction, engineering, manufacturing, agriculture, transport and industry.

We're looking for an organised, commercially minded Industrial Buyer to join our growing Commercial team and play a key role in ensuring our customers receive the right products at the right time, while helping the business maximise stock availability, supplier performance and profitability.

The Role

As an Industrial Buyer, you'll be responsible for purchasing and replenishing a wide range of industrial products, ensuring stock is available to meet customer demand while maintaining optimum inventory levels.

This is a highly collaborative role where you'll work closely with Product Specialists, Internal Sales Teams, Branch Managers, Warehouse teams and suppliers to influence purchasing decisions, improve supplier performance and optimise stock across the business.

You'll be at the heart of our supply chain, ensuring products flow efficiently from supplier to customer and contributing directly to the commercial success of the business.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Raising and managing purchase orders with suppliers.
  • Monitoring stock levels and replenishment requirements.
  • Chasing supplier deliveries and resolving supply issues.
  • Managing backorders and minimising stock shortages.
  • Working closely with Product Specialists to support category plans.
  • Liaising with Branches and Warehouse teams to ensure product availability.
  • Monitoring supplier lead times and delivery performance.
  • Reviewing stock reports to identify slow-moving or excess inventory.
  • Maintaining accurate purchasing data and ERP records.
  • Supporting continuous improvement across purchasing and inventory processes.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Enjoys analysing data and solving problems.
  • Has strong attention to detail.
  • Builds positive relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
  • Can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has good commercial awareness.
  • Is proactive and takes ownership of their work.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively across different teams.

Ideally You'll Have

  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, stock control or supply chain.
  • Experience within industrial distribution, merchanting, manufacturing or wholesale.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing purchase orders.
  • An understanding of inventory management and replenishment principles.

If you have strong purchasing or supply chain experience from another sector, we'd still like to hear from you.

Why Join MacGregor Industrial Supplies?

You'll be joining a business that's investing heavily in its people, systems and future.

We offer:

  • Competitive salary.
  • 37.5-hour working week.
  • Company pension.
  • Employee discount.
  • Life Assurance.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Ongoing learning and development.
  • Supplier and product training.
  • Opportunities to attend supplier events and trade exhibitions.
  • Genuine career progression opportunities.
  • The opportunity to work with Scotland's leading independent industrial supplier.

Why This Role?

This role is about much more than placing purchase orders.

You'll influence stock availability, improve supplier performance, support commercial decision-making and help ensure our customers receive the products they need to keep their businesses moving.

You'll work alongside experienced Product Specialists and Commercial colleagues, giving you the opportunity to broaden your commercial knowledge and make a real impact on the success of the business.
