TuffX processed glass ltd are a leading glass manufacturing business supplying high-quality products to customers across the construction, architectural, automotive, and industrial sectors. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Quality control technician to support our manufacturing operations and drive continuous improvement across our production processes.
The Role
As a Quality control technician, you will be responsible for ensuring that all glass products meet customer specifications, industry standards and internal quality requirements. Working closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Customer Service teams, you will lead quality investigations, analyse performance data, and implement improvements to reduce defects, improve yield, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and improve quality performance across glass manufacturing and processing operations.
- Investigate customer complaints, product defects, and non-conformances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Conduct quality inspections and audits of manufacturing processes, products, and systems.
- Analyse production and quality data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and maintain quality documentation, procedures, control plans, and inspection standards.
- Support new product introductions and process changes through risk assessments and validation activities.
- Work closely with production teams to reduce waste, improve yield, and minimise quality-related downtime.
- Lead and facilitate problem-solving activities using tools such as 8D, 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagrams, and FMEA
- Support supplier quality activities and evaluate incoming raw materials against quality requirements.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and relevant customer, industry, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous experience in a Quality technician role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality reporting systems.
Desirable
- Experience within glass manufacturing, glazing, float glass, coated glass, tempered glass, laminated glass, or related materials industries.
- Knowledge of glass quality standards, optical inspection requirements, and defect classification systems.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC), MSA, PPAP, and FMEA.
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- Familiarity with automated inspection systems and vision-based quality control technologies.
