The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, a good understanding of vehicle inspections and repairs, and a proactive approach to maintaining high standards. Experience with PMIs and fleet maintenance would be highly beneficial, but training and support will be offered to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out vehicle inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs across the company fleet
  • Support the completion of Preventative Maintenance Inspections in line with DVSA standards
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
  • Carry out general repairs including brakes, suspension, steering, engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and body-related repairs
  • Complete defect repairs and ensure vehicles are returned to a safe and roadworthy condition
  • Maintain accurate records for inspections, servicing, repairs, and defects
  • Work closely with the transport and operations teams to support vehicle availability
  • Help reduce vehicle downtime through effective fault diagnosis and repair planning
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
  • Follow company health & safety procedures at all times
  • Support compliance standards linked to DVSA and operator licence requirements
  • Assist with other equipment such as forklifts or warehouse machinery where required, depending on experience

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Fleet Mechanic, HGV Technician, Vehicle Technician, or similar
  • Good working knowledge of vehicle maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs
  • Experience working on light commercial vehicles, vans, or HGVs
  • Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs confidently
  • Good understanding of vehicle safety and roadworthiness standards
  • Ability to work independently and take pride in the quality of your work
  • Strong attention to detail and good record-keeping skills
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance is preferred
  • IRTEC accreditation would be advantageous, but is not essential
  • IRTEC training and development will be offered to the right candidate
  • Welding, fabrication, hydraulics, or electrical diagnostic experience would be beneficial

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a fleet or transport operation
  • Experience carrying out PMIs
  • Experience with C-Class vehicles or vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes
  • Forklift, plant, or material handling equipment maintenance experience
  • Tow truck experience or qualification up to 7.5 tonnes
  • Previous experience in a lead technician or single-technician workshop role

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary between £40,000 and £55,000 per year, depending on experience
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Opportunity to take ownership of an in-house fleet maintenance function
  • Training and development, including IRTEC support where required
  • Free on-site parking
  • Supportive working environment
  • Opportunity to play an important role in fleet safety, compliance, and operational performance

About the Role

This role would suit a skilled mechanic or technician who wants to take the next step in their career and become more involved in fleet maintenance, compliance, and vehicle safety.

You do not need to already hold every qualification listed. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, strong technical ability, and a willingness to develop. For the right candidate, we will provide support and training to help you grow into the role.
