Full job description

Marston Foods is an award-winning desserts manufacturers based on the outskirts of Frome, Somerset.

We are looking for enthusiastic section leaders to join our busy and growing team. This role will include supporting the Shift Leaders and Production Manager to develop a positive culture and implement Lean manufacturing principles.

This is a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern role, working 7am to 7pm.

2024 has been an exciting time of development, restructure and growth at Marston Foods, which has created these new roles.

We have three areas as part of our production: bakery, high care and low care / stores. Each area will have their own section leader to support and direct the team members to complete their daily tasks, ensure training and development opportunities are met and daily huddles are productive and include opportunities for employee voice. It is essential that all section leaders will be able to work in all departments and will become – with training – advocates for business.

Requirements:

· An enthusiasm to learn and work as part of a team is essential.

· Support their team to complete daily plans

· Always comply with the health and safety and food safety guidelines.

· Taking responsibility for their own actions and the actions of others around them

· All staff must understand the importance of flexibility and will be asked to cover other areas.

· Ability to follow reasonable requests from shift leaders and all management.

· Ability to be self-motivated and enthusiastic, including requests for training and development opportunities.

· Be a supportive and positive team member.

· Follow the Marston Foods Values and Behaviours at all times.

· Ensure all quality standards are met.

· Follow Company procedure and policies at all times.

· Follow the ‘clean as we go’, GMP and waste procedures.

Overview:

To be a positive, respectful and committed member of the production team, working together to ensure all products leave site on time, in full and of the best quality. All staff take responsibility for their own actions, while supporting each other to always follow the factory procedures and policies.

Job Role:

· Support and direct your section’s team members to complete their tasks whilst following standard processes; but to always be looking to improve these processes and to recommend improvements to your line manager and wider team.

· Provide training and coaching to your team members so that they can perform their tasks consistently with due regard for safety, quality and efficiency. To provide feedback and encouragement to your team members and to raise issues of concern with your shift leaders and to request further support to bring about positive change to grow your team’s skill and aptitude.

· Take responsibility for the accuracy of your section’s daily plans (to include completion of opening and closing stocks) and to have an input with the planner and production shift leader to edit and optimise the plans to enable safe and quality compliant output within the standard time period.

· Work with the team to ensure daily plans are completed with equal regard to quality and quantity. To highlight to your shift leader if production plans (or standards and targets) will not be met and to recommend remedial actions and improvement ideas to prevent recurrence of repetitive issues which cause shortfalls in production.

· To work with the team to invite feedback and ideas on how to remove safety critical issues or reduce defects, struggle, wastage and variation and to improve efficiency, and quality standards.

· To collect and calculate performance measurements for your section and to recommend remedial actions and improvement ideas to prevent recurrence of repetitive issues whenever targets and standards are not reached (and to fully celebrate whenever targets are exceeded)

· Ensure cleaning schedules and standard cleaning instructions are followed to maintain and raise standards of hygiene. To review feedback from audits/customer complaints/non-conformances (customer/BRC or routine internal checks such as GMP) and to correct issues swiftly for your section or escalate issues to shift leaders and production manager if wider support (resource and finance) is needed to carry out the necessary permanent corrective action.

· Take a lead role in the daily section huddles to review performance and action boards. Communicate out to the level 2 meetings and feedback to the section huddle from the level 2 meetings. Complete action requests as necessary and chase progress as necessary.

· To get involved in the writing of SOP’s by recommending edits and updates to the ‘process team’. Continuously review with your team members that the written SOP’s are being followed to ensure consistency of methods to reduce variation – if they are not being followed ensure your team member reverts to the standard or recommend improvements for authorisation by the ‘process team’ for re-issue of the SOP.

· To support your section by being ‘hands-on’ the production lines whenever needed to assist with all production tasks as required.

· All ongoing training will be recorded on the skills matrix and will in turn create part of your job description. This will be communicated via the training board and 1:1 review sessions.
