Engineering Lead

Full Time – 37.5 hours per week

Sterile Services East – Braintree, Essex

The Role:

The provision of Engineering Maintenance, Testing, Validation and breakdown support to the Braintree Ramsay Decontamination Hub. You will provide competent Technical, Health, Safety and Environmental support & assistance and successfully network with other Decontamination Lead Engineers and Assistants to support them in carrying out their roles within their own sites, usually via remote access. You will support the Group Estates Manager with their day-to day-duties, particularly keeping up with Mandatory Requirements. Support and promote an in-house model of training & undertaking the preventative maintenance and servicing of all TSSU related equipment and associated plant at the facility, reducing reliance on external contractors.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure the Engineering Planned Preventative Maintenance Routine has been completed as detailed in the Standard Operating Procedure manuals
  • Ensure all Statutory Insurance Inspections are undertaken and remedial tasks resolved
  • Provide a customer focussed service to ensure production delays are minimised through proactive responses to unplanned outages & ensure all preventative maintenance is planned to minimise impact on service
  • To attend & contribute to required governance meetings & working groups at site and corporately
  • Ensure that the site is safe and working effectively by maintaining Health & Safety requirements
  • Participate in an on-call rota providing support to the Braintree Unit when deemed necessary
  • Develop a basic knowledge of Oaks and Springfield Hospitals to enable assisting those sites in case of emergency
  • Use expertise to balance the prioritisation of breakdown against planned activities
  • Operate as first point of contact for external contractors, to ensure all appropriate permits to work are completed and authorised
  • Over time the dependence on external contractors will be reduced as the size and experience of the TSSU Engineering Team increases
  • Participate in directly supporting & training apprentices from home site and other units as required

What you’ll bring:

  • City & Guilds Part 1/2, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering essential
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety guidelines and applicable law
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel) and IT equipment
  • Sound fault finding techniques
  • Experience in managing and co-ordinating Contractors and Service Engineers

Desirable experience:

  • HNC or equivalent or City & Guilds ONC or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Have attended or will be required to attend Eastwood Park specialist training for Washer & Steriliser testing & validation
  • Understanding of Legionella prevention requirements within Hospital buildings
  • IOSH Health & Safety qualification
  • Understanding of building services, training will be given
