Start Your Engineering Career

AML Instruments Ltd is a well-established and ambitious provider of calibration and testing equipment, accredited to UKAS ISO/IEC 17025.

We are offering an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Lab-Based Calibration Engineer to join our team and develop into a fully trained, multi-skilled Calibration Engineer.

This is a structured development role designed to take someone with the right attitude and train them into a confident, technically capable engineer with long-term career prospects.

The Role

You will begin by supporting experienced engineers in our laboratory, learning the fundamentals of calibration and gradually building your skills across multiple disciplines.

Over time, you will be trained to carry out calibration independently across a range of equipment, including:

  • Mass
  • Dimensional
  • Electrical
  • Temperature
  • Pressure
  • Torque & force
  • Rheology
  • Optical equipment

As your training progresses, you’ll take on increasing responsibility, working towards becoming a fully competent calibration engineer within a UKAS-accredited environment.

Training & Progression

We place a strong emphasis on developing our engineers from the ground up:

  • Structured, hands-on training programme delivered by experienced engineers
  • Step-by-step progression through key calibration disciplines
  • Exposure to a wide range of equipment and industries
  • Ongoing mentoring and support throughout your development
  • Clear pathway to fully qualified Calibration Engineer status
  • Opportunities to specialise in technical disciplines (e.g. force, dimensional, electrical)
  • Potential to progress into senior engineering or technical specialist roles over time

This is a role for someone who wants to build a long-term technical career, not just a short-term job.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone with the right mindset and willingness to learn:

  • Strong interest in engineering, science, or technical work
  • Practical, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Excellent IT skills (full system training provided)
  • Full UK driving licence preferred (due to location)
  • Ideally with a level 3 qualification in engineering or another technical subject, e.g. A level maths or physics

No prior calibration experience is required—full training is provided.

What We Offer

  • Structured training with clear career progression
  • 5-day working week (Monday–Friday)
  • Annual bonus and optional overtime
  • 28 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays, increasing with service
  • Option to purchase additional holiday
  • Company laptop
  • Pension and life insurance cover
  • Access to 24/7 virtual GP, mental health support, and counselling services
  • Annual salary reviews every July

Why Join AML Instruments?

At AML, we invest heavily in our people. You’ll be joining a supportive, forward-thinking team where training, development, and progression are a priority—not an afterthought.

Our engineers work with leading organisations across the UK, and we are committed to helping you build a stable, skilled, and rewarding career in the calibration industry.
