ROLE SUMMARY


Reporting to the Head of Operations, the VIE Junior Mechanical & Electrical Project Engineer will support the planning, development and delivery of engineering projects across the UK Products manufacturing network.

The role will provide engineering support throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept development and feasibility studies through to design, procurement, installation, commissioning and performance review.

Working closely with operational teams, engineering contractors, suppliers and project stakeholders, the graduate will assist in delivering capital investment projects, manufacturing improvements, asset optimisation initiatives and site redevelopment programmes.

The role offers extensive exposure to mechanical engineering, electrical systems, manufacturing operations, project management and industrial asset development, providing a unique opportunity to develop practical engineering experience within a live manufacturing environment


KEY OBJECTIVES


  • Support engineering projects from concept through to completion.
  • Assist with manufacturing redevelopment and capital investment programmes.
  • Improve manufacturing asset reliability, efficiency and performance.
  • Develop engineering designs, layouts and technical documentation.
  • Support equipment selection, specification and procurement activities.
  • Assist with commissioning and performance validation of new assets.
  • Conduct engineering reviews of existing manufacturing facilities and equipment.
  • Support health, safety and compliance requirements for engineering projects.
  • Develop engineering standards and asset management practices across the business.
  • Contribute to sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives.


PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES


Engineering Project Delivery

  • Support the delivery of engineering projects across manufacturing sites.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling and progress reporting.
  • Participate in feasibility studies and option appraisals.
  • Support development of project scopes, specifications and business cases.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with operational teams and contractors.
  • Track project milestones, risks, budgets and deliverables.
  • Assist with project commissioning and handover activities.


Mechanical & Electrical Engineering

  • Support the design and specification of manufacturing equipment and infrastructure.
  • Assist with mechanical and electrical system reviews and assessments.
  • Produce and update engineering drawings and layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Review equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support equipment installation, modification and upgrade projects.
  • Assist in developing engineering standards and technical documentation.
  • Support fault investigations and root cause analysis activities.


Asset Performance & Reliability

  • Conduct engineering assessments of existing manufacturing assets.
  • Assist in developing asset replacement and investment plans.
  • Review equipment reliability, availability and maintenance performance.
  • Support lifecycle cost analysis and asset optimisation studies.
  • Participate in condition surveys and asset audits.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and equipment reliability.


Manufacturing Redevelopment & Capital Projects

  • Support manufacturing redevelopment programmes, including Warrington and future site developments.
  • Assist with plant layout reviews and process flow optimisation.
  • Support equipment selection and supplier evaluations.
  • Conduct research into emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Assist in preparing technical specifications and tender documentation.
  • Support contractor management and site installation activities.


CAD Design & Technical Documentation

  • Produce and maintain engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Develop site layouts, equipment arrangements and process flow diagrams.
  • Create technical documentation and engineering records.
  • Support development of asset registers and engineering databases.
  • Maintain drawing control and document management systems.
  • Assist with creation of operating and maintenance documentation.


Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Support compliance with engineering and construction safety standards.
  • Participate in risk assessments and method statement reviews.
  • Assist with contractor safety management activities.
  • Ensure engineering projects are delivered in accordance with company standards and statutory requirements.
  • Promote safe working practices across all engineering activities.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong engineering and technical problem-solving capability.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing or industrial processes desirable.
  • Understanding of engineering project delivery methodologies.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 skills.


EXPERIENCE


  • Experience (academic, placement or internship) within engineering, manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Experience using AutoCAD to produce engineering drawings and layouts.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Exposure to engineering projects or capital investment programmes.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Experience conducting technical analysis and problem solving.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Interest in manufacturing engineering, project delivery and industrial asset development.
