Job description

This role is part of a busy team, providing Audio Visual support to staff in the Department of Business and Trade along with providing support to trade negotiations.

Primarily you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of AV in, assisting colleagues with getting connected to AV kit for meetings and troubleshooting issues as they present themselves.

You will also be helping to maintain and prepare the teams AV and IT stock, ensuring it is ready for use.

As part of the day-to-day support, you’ll also be expected to assist the VIP AV team with any assistance they require.

There may also be times when you’ll have to provide assistance to the IT support team.

You’ll be part of the planning process for Trade negotiations, assisting the AV manager with scouting venues, preparing equipment and liaising with other support teams about the logistics of the events. You’ll also be expected to be present onsite at external venues for these events.

This role would suit someone with good trouble shooting skills, and a solution focused mindset with an attention to detail.

This is a predominantly onsite role given the in-person nature of AV support. Predominantly you’ll be required on site 4 days a week.

Main responsibilities

You will be:

  • Support the day-to-day audio-visual offering in the main office.
  • Support Trade Negotiations rounds, both in the main office and at external venues.
  • Support VIP AV team with high level events.
  • Liaise with partners and contractors to ensure problems are flagged and addressed
  • Maintain and update AV equipment for meetings and events.
  • Engage with other support teams to plan support for upcoming meetings and events.
  • Assist the IT operations team with non-AV IT related tasks
  • Maintain and revise processes and documentation as appropriate.

Person specification

It is essential that you have:

  • Experience working with Audio or Video technology. (LEAD)
  • Logical and Creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience working within a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and see a project through.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and high-profile clients.


It is desirable that you have:

  • Networking experience
  • Experience working with audio-visual technologies such as Webex and Microsoft teams

How we offer

Offers will be made in merit order based on location preferences. If you pass the bar at interview but are not the highest scoring you will be held on a 12-month reserve list in case a role becomes available. If you are judged a near miss at interview, you may be offered a post at the grade below the one you applied for.

This role requires SC clearance. DBT’s requirement for SC clearance is to have been present in the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years. Failure to meet this requirement will result in your application being rejected and your offer will be withdrawn.

More about us

This role can only be worked from within the UK, not overseas. If you are based in London, you will receive London weighting. DBT employees are contracted to work in a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in the office. Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DBT, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.
