You'll learn our business from the ground up, gaining a thorough understanding of how each department contributes to the success of the organisation.

You will join a close-knit finance team of five and will have responsibility for leading three team members, while also supporting the development of two colleagues who are studying towards their accountancy qualifications. With ongoing mentoring from the CFO, this role offers genuine scope for progression as the business continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the CFO with the day-to-day management of the finance function.
  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts.
  • Submit monthly and quarterly financial reports to our parent company within agreed deadlines.
  • Manage internal and external audit requests.
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting requests from our parent company.
  • Take ownership of the balance sheet, including reconciliations, prepayments, accruals and the fixed asset register.
  • Calculate monthly depreciation and complete associated reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, processing additions, disposals and transfers.
  • Produce gross margin analysis and provide commercial insight.
  • Oversee contract hire and rent-to-buy agreements from a financial perspective.
  • Manage the accounting process for used machine sales, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly utilisation reports and analyse variances.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide financial support and guidance to the Sales and Operations teams.
  • Supervise and develop three members of the finance team.
  • Support and mentor two colleagues undertaking professional accountancy qualifications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

About You

You will be a qualified ACA or ACCA accountant who is eager to continue learning and developing within a commercially focused finance role.

You will have:

  • ACA or ACCA qualification.
  • Experience preparing management accounts.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other IT systems.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to challenge and improve processes.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous supervisory or mentoring experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • An interest in the construction, plant hire or engineering sector would be beneficial.

What We Offer

  • A genuine opportunity to develop into a senior finance leader.
  • Direct mentoring from an experienced CFO.
  • Exposure to all aspects of finance within a successful and growing business.
  • Leadership responsibility from day one.
  • Professional, supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities.
