Join our team
We are looking for an experienced Specialist Medical Advisor to provide senior medical leadership and specialist clinical expertise to our ME/CFS and Long Covid Service across Kent and Medway.
This is a key advisory role within a multidisciplinary service supporting people with ME/CFS and Long Covid, including patients with complex fatigue syndromes, post-exertional malaise/post-exertional symptom exacerbation, severe and very severe ME/CFS, dysautonomia, PoTS and wider multisystem presentations.
You will provide diagnostic leadership, specialist clinical advice and consultant-level input to support safe, evidence-based and personalised care. The role will suit a Consultant Physician or GPwER with recognised expertise in ME/CFS, Long Covid or complex fatigue-related conditions.
What you’ll do
As Specialist Medical Advisor, you will:
- Provide senior specialist medical advice to the Clinical Director, Clinical Delivery Lead and wider leadership team.
- Chair and lead the weekly Diagnostic MDT.
- Provide expert diagnostic opinion for complex or uncertain cases.
- Support accurate diagnosis of ME/CFS and Long Covid in line with NICE guidance and national best practice.
- Advise on differential diagnosis and where alternative medical causes of fatigue or multisystem symptoms should be considered.
- Undertake specialist assessment and management of patients with severe and very severe ME/CFS requiring consultant-level input.
- Provide clinical advice on complex symptom management, investigations, onward referral and escalation.
- Support clinicians with complex case reviews, prescribing advice and safe discharge planning.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, pathway development and quality improvement.
- Develop the clinical capability of the multidisciplinary workforce through supervision, education and case-based learning.
- Support commissioner discussions and service development where specialist medical input is required.
About you
You will be a medical doctor working at consultant-level practice, with recognised expertise in ME/CFS, Long Covid or related complex multisystem conditions.
You will bring:
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or GP Performers List.
- Experience as a Consultant Physician or GPwER with relevant specialist expertise.
- Experience diagnosing and managing adults with ME/CFS and Long Covid.
- Understanding of severe and very severe ME/CFS, post-exertional malaise/post-exertional symptom exacerbation, dysautonomia and PoTS.
- Strong clinical leadership, diagnostic reasoning and decision-making skills.
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary teams, clinical governance, audit and pathway development.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across professional and organisational boundaries.
- A commitment to safe, evidence-based, person-centred care.
Experience supporting regional specialist services, undertaking domiciliary assessment for severe ME/CFS, or contributing to research, publications or specialist networks would be advantageous.
What we can offer you
At Cora, we want colleagues to feel supported, trusted and able to make a meaningful difference.
We can offer:
- A senior advisory role within a specialist ME/CFS and Long Covid service.
- Remote-suitable working for a focused weekly commitment.
- The opportunity to influence diagnostic pathways, clinical standards and service quality.
- A collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
- The chance to support workforce development and build specialist clinical confidence across the service.
- A values-led culture focused on better care, better outcomes and better experiences.
