Governance Nurse / Care Governance Auditor – Devon

Primarily remote | Occasional visits to nursing homes

We are recruiting on behalf of a care provider looking to expand its existing governance team. They are seeking an inquisitive and tenacious health care professional to support care quality across their nursing homes.

This primarily remote role would suit a current or former nurse or care home manager, or someone with substantial health and social care experience and a strong understanding of care planning, clinical risk and governance.

The role

You will access the provider’s electronic care systems remotely to audit care plans, assessments and daily records. Your focus will go beyond checking whether information has been recorded: you will consider whether it makes sense, reflects the person’s needs and shows that appropriate action has been taken.

You might notice a pattern of weight loss, repeated incidents or changes in someone’s health that warrant further investigation. You will connect information across records, ask focused questions and follow concerns through with the relevant teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Auditing care plans and checking that assessments, daily records and planned care are consistent.
• Reviewing skin integrity, nutrition, MUST assessments, catheter care, diabetes management and medication management.
• Identifying patterns in accidents, incidents and complex or expressive behaviours.
• Reviewing safeguarding concerns, referrals and follow-up actions.
• Carrying out nutrition audits and deeper reviews where records suggest someone may be unwell or their needs are changing.
• Checking care documentation against relevant NICE guidance, policies and Mental Capacity Act principles.
• Recording clear findings, escalating concerns and following up agreed improvements.

About you

You will bring relevant nursing or substantial health and social care experience, alongside the confidence to question information constructively.

We are looking for someone with sound judgement, close attention to detail and the persistence to pursue an unanswered question. Experience of NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) and NHS-funded Nursing Care (FNC) is also relevant to this role.

You should be comfortable using electronic care systems, working independently and communicating findings clearly.

Working arrangements

The role is advertised in Devon and is primarily remote, with occasional travel to the provider’s nursing homes occasionally/as required.
