SHJ is a leading supplier of medical and laboratory gas pipelines systems, providing innovative solutions and services across the UK. Our ongoing investment in R&D ensures we remain at the forefront of our industry.

We are looking for a skilled Field Service Engineer to be based in Northern Ireland . In this customer facing role, you will be responsible for servicing and maintaining a wide range of medical and lab gas systems within NHS and private healthcare facilities, as well as laboratories across the UK.

This role involves a mix of planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs, offering a varied and rewarding work environment where you can make a real impact on critical healthcare infrastructure.

The hours of the role are Monday to Friday and will require participation in an on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and checks in line with industry standards and customer requirements
  • Diagnose and report faults, particularly in electrical components and control systems
  • Identify and document any changes or developments in plant conditions
  • Escalate any issues that could impact medical gas supply or safety
  • Complete accurate job reports and maintenance documentation
  • Identify and report changes in the condition of plant and/or plant rooms
  • Support installation and commissioning of gas systems as needed
  • Build strong working relationships with site contacts and uphold SHJ’s reputation for reliability and service excellence

What we are looking for from you

  • Engineering background, with at least 2 years’ experience as a Service Engineer or a time-served apprenticeship (multi-skilled preferred)
  • Competent Person (MGPS) status highly desirable
  • Experience with medical gas systems, compressor maintenance, vacuum pumps, gas manifolds, alarms, outlets, and pressure equipment is advantageous – training will be provided for the right candidate
  • Sound understanding of health & safety procedures and best practice
  • Familiarity with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive, can-do attitude
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and well-organised with good time management
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach
  • Full, clean UK manual driving licence required
