Full job description

Post: Phlebotomist

Location: Queen Camel Medical Centre

Hours: Part-time (up to 20 hours)

The Role:

As a Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in supporting the treatment, and monitoring of patients by collecting high-quality blood samples safely and efficiently. Working independently within a primary care environment, you will be responsible for delivering excellent patient care while ensuring compliance with NHS and practice policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform venepuncture procedures safely and accurately.
  • Verify patient identity and confirm test requests before obtaining samples.
  • Label and prepare specimens correctly for laboratory transport.
  • Provide reassurance and support to nervous or vulnerable patients.
  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards.
  • Monitor and replenish clinical stock supplies as required.
  • Report incidents, equipment issues, or safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, administrative staff and wider team.

Essential Requirements:

  • Recognised Phlebotomy qualification or equivalent training.
  • Experience performing venepuncture on adult patients.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • English and Maths at an equivalent level of GCSE Grade A-C

Desirable Requirements:

  • Previous experience in NHS General Practice.
  • Knowledge of EMIS Web
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Understanding of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) requirements
