About The Evewell:

The Evewell is a group of currently two independent prestigious private clinics at Harley Street and West London specialising in gynaecology and fertility treatments. Role Overview:

We are seeking a Healthcare Assistant who will work under the indirect supervision of a registered nurse, delivering high standard care in a safe environment that meets the patients’ needs, whilst also maintaining privacy and dignity. You will perform various duties including administration tasks, assisting in theatre and recovery, phlebotomy, helping chaperone patients, prepare exam rooms, collect and prepare samples, generate lab order forms, and performing stock checks. The successful candidate will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; to support the smooth running of the fertility and gynaecology clinic. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, empathy for others, as well as attention to detail.

Location: The Evewell, Harley Street

This is a clinical role which must be undertaken on-site. There will be no opportunity for remote/home working.

Job type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week

Salary: £29,000-£30,000 per annum

Experience/Qualifications: Fertility 1 year (preferred), phlebotomy 1 year (preferred)

Other: This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

The Healthcare Assistant must adhere to the clinic’s operating procedures and policies, CQC guidelines, NMC code of conduct and HFEA code of practice. Training will be provided with regards to Fertility and clinic SOPs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be present and ready to commence duties as per allocated shift start time on the rota and report to line manager by phone call any absence at least one hour before start of shift.
  • Meet the individual needs of patients and their partners.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Practise effective time management to avoid patient delays and inefficiency in service
  • Adhere to and fully understand the clinic’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), CQC Regulations, NMC Code of Conduct, HFEA Code of Practice and the Data Protection Acts, with special reference to patient confidentiality.
  • Comply with the Health and Safety policies with particular reference to procedures to be followed in the event of a fire and to report all accidents and untoward incidents to the Health and Safety officer
  • Ensure that all offered treatment, advice, treatment cycles and outcomes are recorded in line with current HFEA guidelines, requirements and SOPs.
  • Obtain informed consent from patients in line with the HFEA Code of Practice.
  • Inform patients about implications of treatment and provide information and support throughout treatment cycle.
  • Assist the nursing team with administrative duties such as calling patients, checking consent forms and chasing results.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, displaying empathy and compassion with face to face, email and telephone queries, ensuring that all information provided is up to date and accurate.
  • Demonstrate clear and concise documentation and assist with data entry e.g. entering ultrasound measurements.
  • Perform venepuncture (following appropriate training and assessment), interpret and give blood results when necessary.
  • Collect specimens ensuring that all are labelled clearly, in full and that all requests are logged and entered on MediTex.
  • Be competent in basic life support and assist calmly in an emergency situation
  • Keep clinical areas clean and tidy.
  • Act as a chaperone for other staff when requested.
  • Prepare the procedure rooms for egg retrieval, embryo transfer, insertion if IUCD, cervical dilatation, surgical sperm retrieval and gynaecological procedure.
  • Scrub and circulate in the procedure rooms and assist with procedures as necessary.
  • Perform decontamination of trans-vaginal probes between scans.
  • Practice effective waste management in compliance with protocols, including safe sharps disposal.
  • Admit, discharge and escort patients to and from reception to the recovery area.
  • Ensure comfort and provide support to patients during egg collection and embryo transfer procedures and other treatment.
  • Recover patients following IV sedation
  • Understand the concept of whistleblowing and report any concerns to the Nursing & Quality Director.
  • Understand the concept of safeguarding and report any concerns to the Nursing & Quality Director.
  • Have and implement a full knowledge and practical skills in relation to infection control, including effective hand washing and ANTT when assisting with invasive procedures.
  • Attend in-house and complete mandatory online training.
  • HCAs are required to wear scrubs (provided) at all times when on duty
  • Assist in ensuring clinical areas are stocked well and assist in managing the stock room when deliveries are made and rotate stock accordingly.
  • Assist in completing daily quality management checks in each clinical area
  • Report to Nursing & Quality Director when stock needs ordering
  • Assist with pharmacy quality management by assisting with stock takes and checking prescriptions against pharmacy sales for the Nursing & Quality Director
  • Prepare patient notes for the Medical Director’s daily appointments.
  • Scan relevant documentation onto the system, general housekeeping and filing, document control for daily correspondence to the Medical Director.
  • Chase up test results, document services provided to the patients for the Accounts Team.
  • Responsibility for real-time management of Medical Director’s diary to ensure the smooth running of his daily schedule.

General

  • Comply with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority’s Code of Practice, the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, the Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009 and the Data Protection Act 2018, with special reference to patient confidentiality
  • Comply with The Evewell’s health & safety policies with particular reference to procedures to be followed in the event of a fire and to report all accidents and untoward incidents to the health & safety officer
  • Undertake mandatory training as required, including health & safety, fire, manual handling
  • Comply with infection control, CQC and safeguarding policies and procedures
