Full job description

Assessment Support Worker - currently rota vacancy only

Various hours available:

Daytime rota is a two-week rolling rota which includes at least one weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Night rota is an eight-week rolling rota with 33.69 hours or 28.88 hours.

Tide House is an Ofsted registered residential family assessment centre based in Bideford. We provide evidence-based assessments for the courts and local authorities and are seeking motivated and enthusiastic part-time children and family assessment/support workers to join our highly dedicated team.

Our aim is to provide families with the opportunity to access advice, support and guidance with the purpose of improving their parenting skills and enabling them to better meet their child(ren)’s needs within the course of the assessment. The scope of our work includes role-modelling, supporting, and assessing parents' day-to-day core parenting skills. For example, this could include supporting parents in preparing healthy and balanced meals, developing, and maintaining daily routines for children and babies or supporting parents to learn budgeting and independent living skills. Many parents that we work with are vulnerable due to alcohol or substance misuse, domestic abuse or domestic violence or mental health difficulties. The children that we work with are often under the age of 5 so experience in Early Years would be an advantage.

An understanding of safeguarding is essential as part of these roles. Experience or training in any of the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Working with vulnerable children
  • Domestic abuse and domestic violence
  • Alcohol or substance misuse
  • Probation
  • Mental health
  • Early Years

However, we may consider applicants who do not have this experience but are looking to develop a career in social care and have the right personal qualities.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, assertive and confident.

We offer a robust induction and shadowing process for all new staff.

You will receive monthly supervision, appropriate training and excellent peer and team support to enable you to fulfil your role.

The roles require the ability to fulfil all written and spoken aspects with confidence and fluency in English. A good standard of literacy and IT competence is required.

Please note – we do not sponsor Visas for this post. UK Right to Work is required.

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for all our posts. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.

Interview Date: Interviews will be arranged as we receive suitable applications.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.

Working hours

Tide House is a 24/7 service and therefore applicants need a degree of flexibility in terms of work patterns. We operate a 2-week repeating rota for day staff and 8 -week repeating rota for night staff. Please note that the daytime roles require working every other weekend.
