Full job description

Job Title: Night Support Worker

Hours: Waking Nights 22:00-08.30, working a 3 on 3 off rolling rota; (with the ability to work occasional days being desirable).

Pay: £13.30 per hour.

Location: Kings Heath, Birmingham

If you have the drive and ambition to offer the best experience to parents and their children who are resident and undertaking parenting assessments then this may be the role for you.

Our Parenting Assessments are individually tailored according to the needs of the family, with a focus upon ‘the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families’ and the parents’ ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of their child. The wellbeing of the children is our primary focus, ensuring that the baby or child’s needs are met at all times.

The purpose of the Night Support Worker role:

1. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times. Provide support to families throughout the night.

2. To work as part of a Team in assessing parenting abilities.

3. To work as part of a Team in supporting Parents to develop their life skills.

4. To contribute to the programme of work and undertake sessions with Parents as required.

5. To write detailed records of observations, and work undertaken, and contribute to review reports.

6. To liaise with other professionals and agencies as required.

7. To ensure that the Residential Family Centre regulations and National Minimum Standards and organisational policies and procedures are implemented.

We are looking for:

  • Resilient, self-motivated staff who believe they are able to undertake objective parenting assessments based on detailed observations of children and their families, within a residential setting, and to be able to maintain accurate and detailed records of observations;
  • Ideally have Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma or equivalent; or be willing to undertake this qualification.
  • Ideally have 2 years’ experience of working with parents and children, or the ability to demonstrate transferable skills, knowledge and experience;
  • The role is subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS check and medical clearance.
  • To be able to maintain accurate and detailed records of observations
  • To be able to teach and support parents, helping them to build on parenting skills
  • Have a kind, caring, empathetic personality, with excellent communication and literacy skills.
  • Candidates must have a good working knowledge of child protection legislation
  • Ideally have own car insured for business use, which is suitable for transporting parents and children and clean driving licence.
