Full job description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the Continence Service as a Health Care Assistant (HCA). The HCA post is based at Lancaster Road Shrewsbury, but you will be expected to support a specialist nurse in clinics across the county in a variety of settings to include community hospitals and GP surgeries. Therefore, it is essential that you can meet the travel requirements of the job.
At Shropshire Community Health Trust, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role, after you have reviewed the job description, but you don’t have the specific Continence experience, then we will provide training, so we would encourage you to apply.
Please contact the team to arrange an informal visit, here the team can show you the clinical and office environment. Please contact Jemma Brown Team Leader on 01743444062 to arrange this.
You are required to write in you own words (100 words maximum) your understanding of the continence service. Please write this along with your supporting evidence within your application form, if you do not write this, your application form may not be considered.
You will need to be confident in promoting health and wellbeing as the post requires the HCA to deliver targeted training in a classroom setting to the wider community utilising power point presentations and displaying visual aids.
To be able to use the flowmeter and undertake urinalysis.
To use electronic patient records accurately and inline with the trusts IG Policy.
To undertake and manage routine clerical tasks in support of the Continence Service, including organising patient documentation for clinics and overseeing the filing of patient documentation. Archiving notes emailing patient letters to the appropriate health care professional.
To work flexibly across the department as required / directed.
Respect patient’s individuality and maintain their privacy and dignity.
Support patients and exercise positive relationships within professional boundaries as part of a purposeful caring regime.
To Conduct continence reassessments as delegated by the Continence Advisor/ Team Leader.
To deliver training sessions to the independent care sector, this means teaching up to 20 delegates about catheter care, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) prevention and different types of continence aids. This would all be demonstrated to the successful candidate before they are required to teach independently.
