Full job description
Linton Health Centre
We are looking for two part-time members of staff to cover the following hours/days:-
Part-Time Coder 16 hours (Position 1) – Based at Linton
- Thursday: 9:00am–5:00pm
- Friday: 9:00am–6:00pm
- Start date: August
Part-Time Coder 16 hours (Position 2) – Based at Linton
- Tuesday: 9:00am–2:30pm
- Thursday: 9:00am–2:30pm
- Friday: 9:00am–3:30pm
- Some flexibility with hours, but Friday working is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Processing
- Receive patient information and communication via various methods to include post, emails, electronic document management and any others as appropriate.
- Scan, input and accurately code daily communications to record appropriate medical information in patient records.
- Prioritise and distribute, via electronic document management, appropriate patient information and correspondence.
- Ensuring incoming letters are viewable on the patient record within appropriate timelines
Clinical Coding
- Accurately record and read code diagnoses, procedures and investigations.
- Ensure all relevant information is coded appropriately within the clinical record.
- Identify urgent information requiring immediate action.
- Forward information to the appropriate clinician or team where necessary.
- Identify complex or higher cases requiring clinical review.
- Escalate concerns appropriately in accordance with practice procedures.
- Flag safeguarding concerns and liaising with safeguarding team when required.
- Ensuring that all QOF related data is identified, coded and captured accurately.
- Work in accordance with agreed coding protocols and practice procedures.
Quality and Performance
- Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support data quality improvement initiatives across the practices.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with QOF, enhanced services and contractual requirements.
- Participate in audits relating to coding quality and completeness.
- Monitor workloads and ensure coding targets and deadlines are achieved.
Communication
- Act as a point of contact for coding-related queries from clinicians and administrative staff.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues across the organisation.
- Escalate issues, discrepancies or concerns to the Operations Manager as appropriate.
Service Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve coding processes and workflows.
- Support the implementation of new coding procedures and systems.
- Participate in relevant training and development activities.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with GDPR and practice policies.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across all Granta Medical Practices.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Operations Manager.
