Departmental Lecturer in Physiology
Department of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics, Sherrington Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT
Contract & job type: Fixed term for 12 months from 01 October 2026
About us:
At the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG) we undertake discovery science where we reassemble physiological processes at the molecular, cellular, tissue and systems level of organisation. In so doing we provide a bridge to translational medicine, and interface between physical and life sciences. We are committed not only to innovative research and the highest standard of teaching, but also to creating an inclusive and supportive working environment.
Overview of the role:
The Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and Corpus Christi College seek to appoint a Departmental Lecturer to engage in advanced study and lecture and teach undergraduate students, to take a leading role in college teaching and admissions at Corpus Christi College, and to conduct some independent research that dovetails with the teaching remit, broadly related to physiology.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver and support teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students (lectures, tutorials, supervision, assessment) across department and college.
- Develop course materials, including lectures, reading lists, and guides.
- Assess university examinations.
- Support student welfare, performance, and conduct, referring issues where needed.
- Organise aspects of the Physiology syllabus.
Selection criteria:
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant biomedical field completed at PhD or MD level
- An aptitude for teaching and demonstrable experience in teaching, supported by a track record of subject-relevant research
- Sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject of physiology and pharmacology to deliver and develop course materials
- Experience of creating collaborative and inclusive environments with people from different backgrounds.
