About Diagnostic Healthcare
Established in 2004, Diagnostic Healthcare is a trusted provider of medical diagnostic imaging services. From MRI, Ultrasound, and CT to X-ray and CBCT, we deliver over 500,000 scan appointments annually across 75 locations, serving both NHS and private patients. Job Summary
1. Their is a requirement to drive to carry out other duties at various sites if appropriate.
2. To work cohesively to support the designated radiographer working a clinical session ensuring that all patient needs are met in a safe and efficient manner.
3. The ensure DEXA consumable stock levels are maintained at all times.
4. To work closely with the radiographer to manage the smooth running on the patient database and session list, recording patient episodes accurately, alerting the DHC patient services team of any booking errors or urgent reports for review.
5. To upload and transfer confidential patient image data in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring all image acquisition related to their designated DEXA is permanently based up to PACS and deleted from the system hard drive when appropriate.
Duties And Responsibilities
Clinical
- Meet and greet patient in a pleasant, confident and professional manner.
- Confirm correct patient identification using required THREE forms of identification; full name, date of birth and address.
- Assist patients in a safe and appropriate manner, as and when requested by the patient, using recognised manual handling techniques for patient transfer and support.
- Act as an advocate for both patient and sonographer during a scan episode.
- Assist the patient with undressing and dressing before and after the scan if requested by the patient.
- Ensure the scan room and waiting areas are kept clean and tidy at all times maintaining a safe clinical environment free from hazards.
- Ensure, under the supervision of the Radiographer, the DEXA system is clean at all times using manufacturers' recommended cleaning agent suitable for eliminating multi-biohazards such as C-Diff and MRSA.
- Call the patient services team to inform them of any urgent or RAD patients immediately following the patient’s scan.
- Complete the end-of-day report on Origami prior to close of clinical session detailing any patients requiring urgent radiologist opinion, urgent reporting, equipment breakdown or intermittent problems, patient DNAs and any other relevant information which may need to be documented or relied upon in the future.
- Upload images to PACS at the end of each clinic.
- Make sure that any persons accompanying patients do not cause a distraction to the sonographer or compromise the clinical safety of the patient in any way. All personnel other than the Radiographer to be in the scan room whilst exposures are being carried out.
- Advise patients and multidisciplinary staff when an unexpected delay may have a direct effect on patient comfort (full bladders etc).
- Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times, supporting the sonographer with all scans, often of an intimate nature.
- Communicate with and relate to all patients and departmental visitors in a professional, empathetic and sensitive manner, giving clear explanations and instructions regarding ultrasound examinations as appropriate.
- Work within and adhere to DHC and local site standards, protocols and operational policies relating to own role, promoting a quality imaging service.
- Carry appropriate levels of ultrasound consumable stock to all sites worked to ensure ultrasound lists are not compromised by shortages of essential supplies from a clinical safety or company reputation perspective.
- Report all stock shortages and requirements to the Operations Team via Origami, on the End of Day. Always ensure that two weeks’ worth of stock is maintained at all times.
- Be prepared to work flexibly to meet service demands
Professional
- Accountable for own professional activities within all DHC working environments, clinical and non-clinical.
- Demonstrate exemplary inter-personal communication skills.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance at all times, in line with DHC Dress Code policy.
- Adhere to DHC's smoking policy.
- To organise and assist with the management of the clinic lists, supporting the radiographer whenever appropriate to ensure smooth running and high standard of patient care.
- Demonstrate excellent concentration skills and attention to detail.
- To manage initial enquiries from junior staff, inter-professional staff, patients and visitors on behalf of the sonographer initially, referring on any situations that require complex explanations of pre and post examination instructions, often obtaining personal and sensitive information from the patient.
- To ensure patient data is accurate and used in accordance with DHC Information Governance policies.
- Help prioritise urgent scans when appropriate, determine correct patient preparation and support the sonographer to promote high standard of patient care in a timely manner.
- To work seamlessly within a pressurised environment to tight time schedules
- Act as first line investigator for any list or patient specific problems encountered within a clinical list, acting on behalf of the sonographer by liaising with the DHC patient services team/Deputy Head of Operations as appropriate, allowing lists to continue whenever possible whilst problems encountered are resolved.
- Provide any required information and/or statistics to the Operations team.
- Ensure that all mandatory training is current and up to date.
- Actively participate in the DHC Appraisal scheme as requested and undertake clinical competency assessments as required.
- To keep up to date with DHC information, events and developments by attending meetings, reading appropriate communications and cascading such information on to all colleagues when requested.
Technical
- To assist the radiographer with the safe set-up and use of DEXA system and ancillary equipment.
- Report any equipment damage or faults in a timely manner as instructed by the Radiographer.
- Manage the uploading and transfer of confidential patient image data in an appropriate format as required to support the radiographer and DHC system of work within a given DEXA site.
- Ensure all image data is permanently backed up in the required digital format and deleted from the ultrasound system hard drives when appropriate in line with DHC Information Governance.
- Be aware of equipment quality assurance and troubleshoot equipment problems. Document any equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
- To be competent with Compucare, DHC PACS system and patient data bases, e-mail and report verification systems. Ensure all trainees use the above mentioned equipment in an appropriate, professional manner.
- To be fully competent with the operation of all additional equipment within the department such as oxygen, suction, defibrillators, hoists and other manual handling devices as appropriate to need.
- To uphold, read and understand the local rules, key work instructions and radiation risk assessments.
- Never under any circumstances use or interfere with the DEXA system per the radiation policies.
