Role Brief:

The Psychiatrist provides specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnostic clarification, medication review, and clinical consultation within Spectrum.Life’s end-to-end mental health stepped-care service. The role supports Step-5 escalation and medical oversight, ensuring members with complex, severe, or diagnostically uncertain presentations receive timely, safe, and evidence-based care.

Responsibilities:

Psychiatric Assessment and Consultation

  • Deliver psychiatric assessments following referral from clinical triage or therapy services
  • Provide diagnostic clarification and formulation input
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning
  • Provide medication advice and prescribing recommendations
  • Deliver follow-up psychiatric review sessions where clinically indicated
  • Support complex case formulation

Stepped-Care Model Integration

  • Operate within Step-5 of the stepped-care model
  • Support escalation decisions and MDT collaboration
  • Provide consultation to therapy teams on complex presentations

MULTIDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION

  • Work with Clinical Lead, psychologists, HI-CBT therapists, counsellors, and 24/7 team
  • Participate in case consultations and MDT discussions

EXTERNAL COORDINATION

  • Support referral to NHS secondary care where appropriate
  • Provide GP communication and documentation
  • Liaise with crisis services if required

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE

  • Participate in incident review and safeguarding processes
  • Maintain NICE-aligned, evidence-based documentation
  • Support outcome monitoring and governance processes

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
  • GMC registration with licence to practise
  • GMC Specialist Register (Psychiatry)

Experience

  • Psychiatry experience
  • Experience in psychiatric assessment and risk management
  • Experience working in MDT settings
  • Tele-psychiatry experience desirable

Professional Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS (or equivalent)
  • Commitment to CPD and NICE-aligned practice
