Full job description

Ultrasound Fellow

Doctor | Part-time 0.5 WTE | Two posts | 12-month fixed-term contracts

London Bridge, London SE1 | £18,000 per year (£36,000 full-time equivalent)

Fully funded Postgraduate Certificate in Ultrasound, worth approximately £5,400.

Develop your ultrasound skills and your NHS career

Bromley Emergency Training & Research Ltd (BETAR) is recruiting two doctors with aptitude and some practical ultrasound experience to join our education team. These fellowships combine postgraduate study and ultrasound development with active involvement in delivering our teaching programmes.

The posts are particularly suited to doctors taking time out of a UK training programme, or planning a return to NHS practice, who want substantial ultrasound development to support their future clinical careers.

What the fellowship offers

· Fully funded Postgraduate Certificate in Ultrasound: six modules chosen from 15 options.

· Opportunities to develop scanning skills through programme teaching, practical sessions and involvement in our courses.

· Experience supporting hands-on teaching alongside experienced faculty from a range of acute specialties.

· Access to ultrasound machines, scannable manikins, simulators and procedural models.

· Workplace pension scheme and free meals on teaching days.

Your role

Alongside completing the certificate’s academic and practical requirements, you will:

· Support practical ultrasound teaching, taking on greater responsibility as your skills develop.

· Prepare equipment, training models and teaching materials, and help courses run smoothly.

· Contribute to educational resources and relevant research or development projects.

· Work reliably and collaboratively with our faculty and administrative team.

Who we are looking for

Essential

· A qualified doctor with NHS clinical experience, currently working in the NHS, taking a career or training break, or actively planning to return to NHS practice.

· Some practical ultrasound experience, with evidence of aptitude for acquiring and interpreting basic images.

· A clear commitment to developing point-of-care ultrasound for your clinical career.

· Good communication skills, an interest in teaching, initiative and willingness to undertake practical preparation and organisational work.

· Ability to attend in person, commit to the full 12 months and demonstrate the right to work in the UK.

Desirable

Participation in a UK medical training programme; experience in an acute specialty; previous ultrasound courses or supervised scanning; teaching experience; interest in medical education or research.

You do not need to be an established ultrasound teacher. We value a sound starting point, aptitude and motivation to develop.

Working arrangements

25 working days in each 10-week period, with dates agreed around the course timetable. Working hours are 9 am–5 pm. A maximum of six weekend days per year will be required, included within the overall working commitment. The role is based in person at our London Bridge training centre.

Applicants combining the fellowship with another role should explain how they will manage both commitments. Any necessary approval for time out of training must be arranged by the applicant.

About BETAR

Established in 2005, BETAR provides medical education for doctors and other clinicians, with a particular focus on emergency care and point-of-care ultrasound.

How to apply

Submit your CV and a short supporting statement outlining your NHS experience and career plans, ultrasound and teaching experience, why you would benefit from the fellowship, what you would contribute, and how the post would fit with other commitments to recruitment@bromleyemergency.com .
