Full job description

Medhurst is a 27 bed Care Home situated in Risca. We are seeking a part time Maintenance Operative to provide a multi-skilled (such as decorating, small plumbing, carpentry and electrical work) maintenance service within the Home and our site/grounds to ensure a safe and compliant environment for residents, staff and visitors.

The successful applicant should be comfortable with the use of electronic recording systems and the use of computers/tablets to do so.

Hours of work will be 30 hrs per week, Monday to Thursday.

The main duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

· To assist/undertake daily room checks.

· To carry out fire alarm safety tests weekly and record findings.

· To test water temperature throughout the home weekly to ensure temperature is correct and record findings.

· To be responsible for ensuring clear and safe pedestrian access to the Home particularly in adverse weather conditions (e.g. clearing snow and gritting).

· To be responsible for monitoring stock levels of items such as grit, salt, light bulbs/tubes and batteries – and if necessary, ensure they are replenished.

· To be responsible for checks of care equipment including profiling beds, wheelchairs and hoists to maintain brakes, tyres and overall suitability of use, reporting faults to the relevant equipment providers.

· Be responsible for your own health and safety regarding working at heights (safe use of ladders etc) by following the policies and procedures and risk assessments of the home.

Following successful completion of a 6-month probationary period, employees are enrolled onto a Healthcare scheme offering cashback on certain medical and dental services, 24-hour counselling line and discounted shopping services.
