Full job description

Our products are complex high value low volume electromechanical systems, typically combining precision-machined components, PCB assemblies, sensors, wiring and custom software. A new design might contain anything from 10 to 100 individual machined parts together with electronic and electrical assemblies.

We are looking for a practical and capable Prototype Engineering Technician to help turn new engineering designs into working, tested prototypes. This is not a repetitive production assembly role which involves simply following instructions.

This role sits between Engineering Design and Production. You will be involved with projects from the design stage into manufacture, helping to plan the build, support procurement, assemble the product and carry out development and functional testing. You will work across mechanical and electrical tasks, collaborating with Project Engineers to investigate problems and develop practical solutions where a design does not initially perform as intended.

Duties

  • Review new designs with engineers and provide practical input on functionality, assembly, testability, component selection and build sequence
  • Help plan prototype and development builds, including identifying required components, tooling, test equipment and information
  • Check components and assemblies before and during a build, identifying design, manufacturing or quality issues
  • Carry out mechanical assembly using engineering drawings, BOMs and other technical information
  • Assemble, connect and test electrical and electronic components including PCB assemblies, sensors, wiring and associated equipment
  • Recommend and record assembly and test procedures for future serial production
  • Carry out development, functional and acceptance testing using test equipment and custom software applications and accurately record the results

Qualifications and Experience

Previous electromechanical engineering experience, an apprenticeship or technical qualifications would be useful. We are interested in finding someone with the right technical aptitude, practical ability and approach to problem solving.

Pay: £30,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
