Field Service Engineer – Medical & Care Equipment (LOLER)
Field Service Engineer
Medical and Care Equipment
Location: Based from Reading RG2 0LU, with field work across Berkshire and surrounding areas
Job type: Permanent, full-time or part-time
Hours: Monday to Friday, daytime. Full-time or part-time working pattern by agreement
Salary: £35,000–£40,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience and competence. Part-time salary paid pro rata

About Provida
Provida supplies and supports medical and care equipment for care homes across Berkshire and surrounding areas.
We service, repair, install and inspect equipment that care teams and residents rely on each day. We are looking for a practical and customer-focused Field Service Engineer to join our small service team.
We welcome both full-time and part-time applicants. For part-time work, we will agree the working days and hours with the successful candidate.
The role
You will visit care homes and other customer sites to service, repair and install medical and care equipment.
Your work will include:
- Planned servicing and preventive maintenance
- Mechanical and basic electrical fault-finding
- Repairs and call-outs
- Equipment installation and setup
- LOLER thorough examinations when you have been trained, assessed and authorised as competent
- Accurate digital job reports and service records
- Clear communication with customers and care-home staff
- Working with our service administration team to plan and complete jobs
- Occasional support with equipment movements, loading and urgent local deliveries
Most work is local or regional, and you will normally return home each day. Occasional longer journeys may be necessary. Overnight stays are rare.
What we need
You must have:
- Practical experience with mechanical or electromechanical equipment
- Good fault-finding and repair skills
- A full UK driving licence
- The ability to work safely and independently at customer sites
- A professional and considerate manner when working in care environments
- Good organisation and accurate record-keeping
- A willingness to learn new equipment and complete further training
- A willingness to help with occasional equipment and delivery work as part of a small team
Previous field-service experience is preferred, but we will also consider applicants with strong transferable repair or maintenance experience.
Useful experience
It would help if you have experience with one or more of the following:
- Patient hoists and slings
- Profiling beds
- Stand aids
- Bath lifts
- Wheelchairs or other mobility equipment
- Medical or care-equipment servicing
- LOLER thorough examinations
- Electrical safety testing
- Mobile maintenance or customer-site repairs
- Engineering, electrical or mechanical qualifications
You do not need existing LOLER experience. We can provide training and development for a suitable engineer.
