Full job description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated Mechanical Manager to join our Estates & Facilities team. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of mechanical services across the Trust.
The successful candidate will provide specialist expertise in healthcare engineering, lead mechanical compliance and maintenance services, and act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, safe environments for patients and staff, while driving service improvement, performance, and value for money.
You will bring strong leadership skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to manage complex systems, contractors, and multi-site operations in a fast-paced NHS environment. A sound understanding of HTMs, statutory compliance, and risk management is essential.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a meaningful impact, shape service delivery, and contribute to strategic estates development within a high-performing Trust.
Main duties
Lead and manage mechanical services across the Trust, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operation of all systems (e.g. water, ventilation, medical gases).
Take Trust-wide responsibility for statutory compliance, acting as Authorised Person and ensuring alignment with HTMs and regulations.
Oversee maintenance, contractors and CAFM systems to deliver PPM, reactive works, and accurate compliance reporting.
Manage budgets, procurement, and lifecycle planning for mechanical assets.
Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders and lead on risk, governance, and performance reporting.
Ensuring statutory compliance and patient safety across all mechanical systems.
Acting as the Trust’s technical authority for mechanical engineering and risk.
Leading performance, audits, and compliance assurance.
Managing teams and contractors across a multi-site environment.
Key skills
Strong specialist knowledge of healthcare mechanical systems and HTMs.
Leadership and team management across complex services.
Analytical and problem-solving skills for risk, performance, and lifecycle planning.
Excellent communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure NHS environment.

Our Trust is one of England's top-performing and safest trusts. We operate two main acute hospital sites—Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital—along with award-winning clinics across North West London.
Our nearly 7,500 staff care for a diverse population of 1.5m, providing full clinical services including maternity, A&E and children’s services, plus specialist HIV and sexual health care. The CQC rates us Good in safety, effectiveness, care and responsiveness, and Outstanding in leadership and resource use.
We continually invest in our facilities, including a £30m expansion of critical care at Chelsea and an £80m Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre at West Mid.
We are delivering sustainable healthcare through our Green Plan. In line with Greener NHS ambitions, we aim for net zero carbon emissions by 2045. Achieving this requires collective effort. We encourage staff to reduce their impact on carbon, waste and pollution wherever possible. Every action counts to create a healthier, more sustainable future.
We are committed to equal opportunities and believe diversity drives innovation and excellence. We welcome applications from the global majority, veterans and underrepresented communities, valuing the perspectives they bring.
If you haven’t heard from us within 3 weeks of the closing date, your application was likely unsuccessful. Employment is subject to a six-month probation. Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
Ensure full compliance with HTMs, statutory requirements and Trust policies for all mechanical systems.
Act as Authorised Person and technical lead for mechanical engineering, providing Trust-wide assurance and advice.
Lead delivery of planned and reactive maintenance programmes, ensuring safety, performance, and service continuity.
Manage mechanical services teams and contractors across multiple sites, including performance, development and accountability.
Oversee CAFM systems to ensure accurate asset data, compliance tracking and reporting.
Lead audits, risk management, and incident investigations, ensuring actions are implemented and risks mitigated.
Manage budgets, procurement and contract performance, ensuring value for money.
Support lifecycle planning and capital projects, providing expert input into asset replacement and resilience.
Produce performance reports and present to senior stakeholders, supporting governance and decision-making.
