About Us

Rapid Response Ambulance Service is a dynamic and rapidly growing CQC-registered healthcare provider, delivering professional ambulance, patient transfer and event medical services across the UK.

As our services continue to expand, we are looking for qualified Ambulance Technicians and Emergency Medical Technicians to join our growing operational team.

Through our National Transfer Service (NTS), we provide dedicated patient transfers across the UK, supporting patients travelling between hospitals and healthcare settings, including longer-distance and specialist transfers.

Alongside our patient transfer services, RRAS provides event medical provision at events and venues across the UK. This creates opportunities to work in a very different clinical environment, providing assessment and treatment as part of a structured event medical response.

The Role

As an Ambulance Technician / Emergency Medical Technician working with RRAS, you will provide patient-centred clinical and operational care across a varied range of ambulance, patient transfer and event medical assignments.

We welcome applicants holding FREC 5, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) qualifications or equivalent ambulance/emergency care qualifications, alongside appropriately experienced ambulance technicians and clinicians whose training and competence meet the requirements of the role.

Depending on the assignment and your individual scope of practice, your responsibilities may include:

• Undertaking appropriate patient assessment and clinical observations.
• Monitoring patients throughout the journey or clinical episode.
• Recognising signs of deterioration and taking appropriate action within your scope of practice.
• Providing appropriate immediate and ongoing patient care within your level of training, competence and authorisation.
• Supporting patients with mobility, moving and handling and personal care requirements.
• Providing reassurance and maintaining effective communication with patients, relatives and carers.
• Supporting patients undertaking hospital-to-hospital, long-distance and other planned ambulance transfers.
• Providing care throughout extended journeys where continuity of care is particularly important.
• Working alongside other ambulance clinicians and healthcare professionals as part of a coordinated clinical team.
• Providing appropriate clinical assessment and treatment within event medical environments.
• Responding appropriately to patients presenting with illness or injury at events, including recognising when escalation or onward referral is required.
• Supporting the safe transfer or handover of patients requiring further assessment or treatment.
• Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous patient and clinical documentation.
• Providing clear and effective clinical handovers.
• Communicating appropriately with receiving hospitals, healthcare professionals and other services.
• Preparing and maintaining vehicles, clinical equipment and operational supplies.
• Working in accordance with RRAS clinical governance arrangements, policies, procedures and assignment-specific requirements.

All clinical activity must remain within your professional qualification, training, competence, authorisation and scope of practice, with appropriate escalation whenever a patient's needs exceed those parameters.

More Than Patient Transport

Working with RRAS is not simply about moving a patient from one location to another.

Our technicians and emergency medical technicians may spend several hours with the same patient during a long-distance transfer, providing observation, reassurance, clinical care and continuity throughout the journey.

Through NTS, assignments can include:

• Hospital-to-hospital transfers
• Longer-distance patient transfers
• Specialist planned transfers
• Repatriation journeys
• Transfers requiring ongoing observation or care
• Other planned ambulance movements requiring an appropriately qualified technician or emergency medical technician

Our event medical work provides a different operational environment, where technicians may contribute to the assessment and management of patients presenting with illness or injury as part of the event's clinical response structure.

This means your role can extend well beyond traditional patient transport.

A Varied Clinical Environment

No two shifts necessarily look the same.

One shift could involve a long-distance transfer between hospitals, spending several hours providing care and reassurance to a patient.

Another could see you working alongside an event medical team at a sporting event, concert, community event or other venue.

You may work alongside paramedics, nurses, other emergency medical technicians, ambulance technicians and wider healthcare professionals depending on the assignment.

For clinicians who enjoy variety, working with patients and applying their skills in different environments, RRAS offers the opportunity to build experience across ambulance operations, patient transfer and event medicine.

• Comfortable working as part of an ambulance, clinical or multidisciplinary team.
• Committed to accurate documentation, effective handover and good clinical governance.
• Able to adapt their approach according to the patient's needs and the requirements of the assignment.
• Keen to continue developing their clinical and operational experience.

We particularly welcome applicants holding FREC 5, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or equivalent qualifications.

Experience in ambulance services, patient transfer, event medicine, urgent or emergency care, healthcare or other relevant clinical environments is welcomed.

Previous experience of long-distance transfers or event medical provision is advantageous, but not essential.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold an appropriate ambulance, emergency medical or clinical qualification relevant to the role, such as FREC 5 / Emergency Medical Technician or an equivalent qualification.
• Have appropriate clinical or operational experience for the level of work undertaken.
• Demonstrate safe, professional and compassionate patient care.
• Work within their training, competence, authorisation and scope of practice.
• Be able to work independently and as part of a wider clinical team.
• Complete RRAS induction, mandatory training and any role-specific training required.
• Meet RRAS safeguarding and pre-employment requirements.
• Hold a valid UK driving licence where required for the assignment, with no more than 6 points.
• Be able to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and public holidays where operationally required.
• Provide evidence of qualifications, training and relevant competencies.
• Hold a valid DBS or be willing to complete the required DBS process.

This opportunity is offered on a self-employed basis, with individual assignments offered according to operational requirements and service demand. Each assignment is distinct and does not guarantee permanent placement, continuous engagement or future work.

Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate pre-employment and compliance checks, which may include verification of identity, right to work, qualifications and professional training, DBS and safeguarding checks, references, employment or professional history and other checks relevant to the role.

While undertaking work for RRAS, all personnel are required to work within their qualification, competence and scope of practice and comply with RRAS policies, procedures, clinical governance arrangements and assignment-specific requirements.

Additional checks, training or competency requirements may apply depending on the nature of the work undertaken.

Pay: From £17.50 per hour
