Job Description Walthamstow Female HCA Bank staff

Job Title: Female Complex Health Care Assistant

Location: Walthamstow Area

Employer: KASE Care

Job Type: Bank staff

Salary: £14.50 per hour

About the Role:

KASE Care is seeking an experienced and compassionate Female Complex Health Care Assistant to join our bank team, providing care to a service user in the Walthamstow area. The service user has a spinal cord injury and requires specific, advanced care to manage their complex health needs.

This position is for bank staff cover, as the current care team is fully staffed. However, you will play an important role in providing cover for sickness, annual leave, and other staff absences when required.

Initially, you will complete shadow shifts alongside the existing care team to become familiar with the service user’s routines, preferences, and clinical needs. Once shadowing has been successfully completed, you will join the bank team and be available to cover shifts as needed.

The role involves working double-up calls in collaboration with another Health Care Assistant and supporting the service user with personal care, clinical interventions, daily living activities, and promoting independence and well-being. Shift lengths can vary between 8 to 12 hours, depending on service requirements. Occasionally, you may also be required to accompany the service user to hospital appointments.

Key Responsibilities:

· Spinal Cord Injury Care: Provide daily assistance with repositioning and mobility support to manage the spinal cord injury.

· Autonomic Dysreflexia Management: Be knowledgeable in recognising and responding to autonomic dysreflexia episodes, providing appropriate care and interventions.

· Cough Assist: Assist with cough management, ensuring the service user’s airway is clear and managing any respiratory challenges.

· Manual Bowel Evacuation: Carry out manual bowel evacuation procedures as required, following the care plan and ensuring the service user’s comfort and dignity.

· Personal Care: Assist with all aspects of personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, while maintaining the service user’s dignity and privacy.

· Repositioning: Reposition the service user regularly to prevent pressure sores and ensure their comfort.

· Day-to-Day Activities: Assist the service user with daily living activities, promoting independence where possible, and providing support as needed with eating, drinking, and household tasks.

· Hospital Appointments: Attend hospital appointments with the service user as required, providing support during travel and assisting with any necessary care during appointments.

· Collaboration: Work alongside other care professionals (including fellow healthcare assistants and medical professionals) to ensure the service user’s needs are met comprehensively.

· Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date care records, including monitoring vital signs and reporting any changes to the care team.

· Emergency Response: Be prepared to act quickly and effectively in emergency situations, including autonomic dysreflexia episodes and other health-related emergencies.

Requirements:

· Experience: Extensive experience providing care to individuals with spinal cord injuries, autonomic dysreflexia, manual bowel evacuation, and other complex health needs is essential.

· Qualifications: Relevant health care qualifications or training in complex care (e.g. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent).

· Cough Assist Knowledge: Experience in managing cough assist techniques and respiratory support.

· Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to report observations clearly and accurately.

· Female Candidates Only: Due to the nature of the role, we are seeking a female complex health care assistant.

· Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a double-up team, supporting a colleague and ensuring the service user receives optimal care.

· Driver: A full UK driving licence is preferred, although not essential.

· DBS Check: Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) is required.

· Flexibility: Ability to work across a variety of shifts (Monday to Sunday), including weekends and potentially evenings.

· Compassionate Nature: A caring, respectful approach to personal care, always ensuring the service user’s dignity and comfort.

What We Offer:

· Full training and ongoing support.

· Opportunity for career development and progression within KASE Care.

· A supportive team environment, working with skilled and dedicated professionals.

· Flexible hours and shift patterns to suit personal circumstances.

· The opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a service user with complex needs.

Mandatory Induction:

In line with our company policy, all new starters are required to attend a mandatory two-day induction programme as part of the onboarding process held at our Head Office in Loughton.

This induction is essential to ensure you are fully prepared, compliant, and confident in your role with KASE Care.

The programme will include:

· Maths/Medication and English assessments

· A presentation on KASE Care, including our company values and CQC regulations and guidelines

· A group exercise

· Collection and verification of onboarding documentation and ID

· Issuing of ID badges and uniforms

· Introduction to the KASE Care management team and an overview of their roles

· Overview of our eLearning and policy platforms (logins will be provided)

· Allocation of access to our Care Planner Platform (used for care notes, medication administration, and call logging)

· A one-hour session with our Safeguarding and Compliance Lead, covering expectations, record keeping, and safeguarding responsibilities

· Face-to-face training in Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Moving & Handling

Attendance at both days of the induction is mandatory and required before you can be onboarded and begin delivering care.
