Your mission

Engitix Therapeutics is a pioneering biotechnology company dedicated to unlocking extracellular matrix (ECM) biology to develop transformative therapeutics for fibrosis and oncology. We are seeking a motivated Scientist to join our Discovery team and support the development and execution of our proprietary extracellular matrix tissue assay platforms.

This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist with experience in handling human tissue, histology and cell-based assays to contribute to the development of innovative drug discovery models that bridge traditional in vitro systems and human disease biology.

The Role
As a Scientist, you will play a key role in establishing complex human ECM based assays to support target ID and validation. Working closely with scientists across biology, translational research and imaging, you will prepare and process human tissue samples, perform cell-based assays, generate high-quality imaging data and contribute to assay optimisation to support target screening.
This is a hands-on laboratory role with opportunities to develop expertise in advanced tissue models, high-content imaging and extracellular matrix biology within a collaborative drug discovery environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preparation and processing including decelluarisation of human tissue samples for cell-based assays
  • Prepare tissue sections using standard histology techniques, including embedding, sectioning and staining
  • Execute cell-based assays using primary cells and established cell lines within ECM-based models
  • Support optimisation and validation of tissue-based drug screening assays
  • Perform immunofluorescence staining and prepare samples for high-content imaging and image analysis
  • Generate, record and analyse experimental data, maintaining accurate laboratory records
  • Assist with assay troubleshooting and implementation of process improvements
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver experimental data to agreed timelines
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and contribute to good laboratory practice and health and safety compliance

Your profile

Qualifications and Competencies

  • BSc or MSc in Biomedical Sciences, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related life sciences discipline
  • 1–3 years of laboratory experience in academia, biotechnology or pharmaceutical research (industrial placement experience will also be considered)
  • Ability to plan and execute experiments with appropriate supervision
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to maintain accurate experimental records and work to high scientific standards
Key Experience
Essential
  • Practical laboratory experience handling human tissue samples
  • Experience with standard histology techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning and staining
  • Experience performing mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays
  • Experience with immunofluorescence microscopy or high-content imaging
  • Strong laboratory organisation and documentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to generate reproducible experimental data
Desirable
  • Experience working with precision-cut tissue slices or other ex vivo tissue models
  • Knowledge of extracellular matrix (ECM) biology, fibrosis or tissue remodelling
  • Familiarity with high throughput imaging and analysis software
  • Experience working with primary human cells, particularly fibroblasts or immune cells

Why us?

  • Be part of a pioneering biotech transforming drug discovery through ECM biology
  • Work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with opportunities to shape the future of targeted therapeutics
  • We offer a competitive package including private medical insurance, pension, bonus, employee perks and more!

About us

Engitix is a growing biotech company based in White City Place, West London. We are dedicated to developing better therapies for advanced fibrosis and solid tumours by leveraging our pioneering extracellular matrix (ECM) platform. Our platform allows the synthesis of realistic in vitro 3D models that serve as tools to transform our ability to identify new targets and biomarkers, determine mechanisms of action and more accurately predict the efficacy of therapeutic candidates.

Join us today in our mission to create a healthier future for patients with life-threatening diseases such as fibrosis and cancer.
