Full job description
Viridien ( www.viridiengroup.com ) is an advanced technology, digital and Earth data company that pushes the boundaries of science for a more prosperous and sustainable future. With our ingenuity, drive and deep curiosity we discover new insights, innovations, and solutions that efficiently and responsibly resolve complex natural resource, digital, energy transition and infrastructure challenges.
Researcher 2025 Programme
A Technology Company with a Passion for Innovation
Viridien ( www.viridiengroup.com ) is a global technology and HPC leader that provides data, products, services and solutions in Earth science, data science, sensing and monitoring. Our unique portfolio supports our clients in efficiently and responsibly solving complex digital, energy transition, natural resource, environmental, and infrastructure challenges for a more sustainable future. Viridien employs around 3,200 people worldwide and is listed on the Euronext Paris SA.
We produce tailored products and customised solutions in pursuit of providing a deeper understanding of the Earth’s subsurface structures. Our subsurface imaging specialists are constantly pushing the boundaries to map subsurface structures using imaging techniques based on applied physics. Our global network of centres provides region-specific expertise, outstanding service and remarkable technology in every image. The images produced of the subsurface are currently primarily used for exploration, production and optimisation of oil and gas reservoirs, however we are also exploring the use of complex subsurface imaging for new markets such as carbon capture or mining.
Become Part of our Research Team
Our Research team consists of passionate scientists with diverse backgrounds including astrophysics, nuclear physics, as well as seismic exploration geophysics. We are all committed to our double mission, to support the Imaging teams on the delivery of the projects and to develop new technologies that will strengthen Viridien’s technical leadership on our competitive market.
- As a geophysical researcher you will develop, implement, test, and support new algorithms to improve imaging of the subsurface. This will include algorithm validation on synthetic and real datasets to stress test the proposed approach.
- You will support the rollout of new technology through internal presentations and user support, as well as promote new technologies to clients through scientific publications and presentations.
- You will need to continuously stay abreast of technology, in order to develop and improve research activities for business units and clients.
Your PhD is just the beginning
We’re looking for new PhD graduates ready to take their research to the next level and have a direct impact on the commercial success of our company. You’ll thrive in an environment designed to fuel both personal and professional growth. You’ll work side by side with industry leaders, benefit from dedicated mentorship, and access development opportunities that sharpens not only your technical expertise but also your people and business skills.
You’ll have the chance to publish and present at top industry conferences, building your profile on the global stage. Regular, constructive feedback ensures you keep growing, so you can accelerate your career and reach the next level.
Qualifications
- Educated to a PhD degree level in any of the following disciplines: Geophysics, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or related technical discipline.
Competencies
- Excellent coding skills are essential for this role, particularly C/C++ or FORTRAN and preferably knowledge of high-performance computation (MPI, multi-threading, GPU etc.)
- Strong mathematics skills, as you must be capable of abstracting geophysical concepts with mathematical languages
- Great analytical, problem-solving and attention to detail skills
- Knowledge of seismic processing/imaging is desirable but not essential
- Experience in wave propagation, linear or non-linear inversion is a plus
