Full job description

Job Title: Radiographer / IRMER Operator
Location: Southampton
Salary: £27,000 - £33,000/year
Contract Type: Part-Time, Permanent, 22.5 hours/week

Job Summary We are seeking a qualified Radiographer/IRMER Operator to provide high-quality 2D and 3D radiography, ensuring optimal efficiency and service quality. You will operate independently within your Scope of Practice, upholding clinical safety, professional conduct, and exceptional patient care. In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will also be responsible for the recruitment and regular communication with new referrers, as well as the management of patient appointments and billing for both patients and referrers.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties:

  • Perform 2D and 3D according to IR(ME)R and company protocols
  • Independently justify and carry out imaging procedures in line with referral forms
  • Liaise with Supervising Practitioners and referrers as needed
  • Accurately input and manage patient data
  • Position and support patients safely, adapting techniques where necessary
  • Maintain dignity, safety, and confidentiality throughout the imaging process
  • Assess and review image quality, taking further projections if required
  • Highlight unexpected abnormalities per QA protocols

Operational Duties:

  • Maintain clean and safe clinical environments
  • Monitor and report equipment faults; label/remove faulty items from use
  • Ensure correct manual handling practices and equipment use
  • Participate in quality assurance, audits, and incident reporting

Professional Conduct:

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication
  • Maintain professional appearance and behaviour
  • Ensure up-to-date CPD and competency in line with GDC/HCPC/IR(ME)R standards
  • Support colleagues, including training and mentoring new staff

Governance and Training:

  • Contribute to Health & Safety, Infection Control, and Clinical Governance
  • Participate in QA meetings, audits, and training sessions
  • Follow Cavendish Imaging’s policies, including confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection
  • Adhere to national and professional regulatory standards (GDC, HCPC, SoR)

Requirements:

  • BSc Radiography or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent) Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration or - IR(ME)R Operator (GDC registered with postgraduation in Radiography)
  • Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration or GDC Registration
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Proficient in patient care, clinical safety, and data accuracy
  • UK work permit required
