Control & Instrumentation Technician
Contract (6 Months min)
Location: Greater Manchester
Contract Type: Contract, Outside IR35 — 6 months initial, strong likelihood of extension
Rate: £40-£50/hour+ (Outside or PAYE)
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm

About the Role

Our client operates a COMAH-regulated chemical manufacturing site in Greater Manchester and is seeking an experienced C&I Senior Technician to join their team on an initial 6-month contract basis, with a strong likelihood of extension.

This is a hands-on technician role, primarily focused on statutory inspections, instrument calibration, fault finding, and responding to breakdowns. The team works to a weekly plan issued in advance so everyone knows what they'll be working on, though this can flex around unplanned breakdown response as priorities dictate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out statutory inspections on site instrumentation and control equipment
  • Perform calibration of transmitters, control valves, switches, and gauges
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across instrumentation and control systems, including DCS, PLC, and relay logic
  • Respond to breakdowns as they arise, working alongside the wider team's weekly work plan
  • Carry out installation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems
  • Work safely within a COMAH-regulated, hazardous area (ATEX/DSEAR) environment

About You

  • Proven experience as a C&I/Instrument Technician within a chemical, petrochemical, or process manufacturing environment
  • Experience with DCS systems (Honeywell, Delta V, ABB, or Foxboro all considered)
  • Relay logic experience desirable
  • ATEX/hazardous area awareness
  • Strong calibration and instrumentation fault-finding skills
  • Comfortable working to a structured weekly plan while remaining responsive to reactive breakdown work

Why Apply

This is an opportunity to join a well-established manufacturing site on a contract with genuine scope for extension, working within a supportive team environment with clear weekly planning and visibility of upcoming work.
