Full job description
At Vets Now Specialist Referrals and Out of Hours Glasgow we have a very rare opening for a Diplomate (ECVECC, ACVECC) or Residency trained Emergency & Critical Care Clinician to join us on a permanent, part-time basis.
We are a busy private referral hospital and first-opinion out-of-hours emergency provider located in the heart of Glasgow. Our multidisciplinary team includes Specialists in Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Anaesthesia, Emergency and Critical Care, Orthopaedics, and Soft Tissue Surgery, supported by a highly skilled nursing team.
Our ECC service is one of the largest Specialist teams in the country, comprising of 4x Diplomates, 4x Residents, and 2x Discipline Specific Interns. We have one of the largest and busiest Out of Hours Team in the UK, as such we have high numbers of OOH staff on at nights, and weekends in addition to our ECC team.
The hospital benefits from the use of state-of-the-art facilities including a Siemens Somatom Go All 32/64 slice CT, Draeger anaesthesia ventilator machines, portable ultrasound probes, a CellSaver® machine and a Draeger ICU dedicated ventilator.
Vets Now are part of Inspiring Vet Care, the UK and Europe’s leading veterinary care group, made up of over 900 practices and referral hospitals, united by a shared purpose of happier animals, happier owners.
What makes us different?
We are truly proud of the positive attitude and culture we have established in our hospital. Collegiality and collaboration are key for us, and our teams (including visitors) tell us they love the feel and support in the hospital amongst colleagues. We believe that working together is working smarter and allows us to deliver the very best in patient, client and staff care.
We care about feedback. We listen to our all our clinicians and work with them to ensure we are looking out for their best interests. We also listen to our referring vets and clients to ensure we are providing the service they want and need.
We also encourage further education at all levels and fully support our clinicians delivering training within multiple settings both internally and externally to the wider Inspiring Vet Care and Vets Now network.
How you’ll make a difference
As an ECC referral clinician, you will be expected to take responsibility for the diagnostic investigation and treatment plans for all new patients referred as emergencies to the ECC referral service as well as providing on-going care to the patients under the team’s care in ICU either primarily, or by supervising our ECC discipline specific interns and residents. As a multidisciplinary hospital, you will also provide support to critically ill patients from other disciplines when required.
The ideal candidate would work a 2-3day week, plus 1 in 4 weekends on call, with time off to facilitate an average 20 hour working week. Alternative working patterns can be discussed.
You will be expected to contribute to intern and resident teaching and deliver CPD opportunities to both internal staff and external veterinary colleagues. You will be part of the team delivering in-house CPR training to the hospital, and support the Edge Teams when possible, as well as participating in the hospital M&M rounds.
