Laboratory Assistant/Sampler Preparer

  • Location: Hemerdon Mine, Plympton (PL7 5BW)
  • Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent
  • Pay: £29,500 + shift allowance
  • Hours: 12 hour shifts (5on, 5 off, 4on, 4off)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Laboratory Assistant/Sample Preparer to join our Metallurgy team. Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, you will be responsible for preparing and processing mineral samples within our metallurgical laboratory, supporting ongoing test work and operational activities.

This role would suit a safety-conscious individual who enjoys practical work, can work independently, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

** This role requires you to pass a Drug and Alcohol test on day one **

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and support a strong safety-first culture at all times
  • Receive, sort, label and organise incoming mineral samples
  • Dry, crush, split, pulverise, weigh, press and package samples for analysis
  • Record test results accurately using appropriate IT systems and documentation method
  • Follow established laboratory procedures and work instructions
  • Assist with metallurgical test work and sample preparation activities
  • Update and maintain laboratory records using online spreadsheets
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required by management

What We're Looking For

  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • High level of physical fitness
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to health and safety
  • Experience working in a mining, quarrying, laboratory or industrial environment would be advantageous
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications
