Laboratory Technician / Biomedical Laboratory Assistant (Diagnostic Lab)

Location: Edgware, London HA8
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, shift-based (evenings and weekends required)
Salary: Dependent on experience

Kernel Diagnostic Laboratories is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician / Biomedical Laboratory Assistant to join our diagnostic testing laboratory. This is a hands-on laboratory role in an active clinical / diagnostic environment processing real patient samples.

Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience working in a live diagnostic or service laboratory. Research-only or academic laboratory experience will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sample reception, labelling, logging, and processing
  • Handling and processing biological specimens (blood, urine, stool)
  • Following SOPs in a regulated laboratory environment
  • Routine QA/QC checks and reporting non-conformances
  • Cleaning, maintaining, and assisting with calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Stock control of laboratory consumables and reagents
  • Biological and chemical waste handling and disposal
  • Maintaining laboratory organisation, cleanliness, and safety
  • Working in compliance with CQC, UKAS, and ISO 17025 standards

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, or related field
  • Minimum 2 year experience in an active diagnostic, clinical, pathology, or testing laboratory
  • Experience with sample processing and high-throughput laboratory workflows
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced lab environment
  • Knowledge of quality systems, SOPs, and laboratory compliance
  • IT skills including Microsoft Excel and Office
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability
