The role provides the right candidate with an opportunity to be part of an innovative service where patient care and experience are the priorities, and where we aim to always find a better way. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting our clinical services by carrying out health screening measurements, obtaining patient samples, and conducting diagnostic tests using validated medical devices at the point of care to ensure timely and accurate results that aid in faster patient diagnosis and treatment.
They will be meticulous in their attention to detail and play a pivotal role in laboratory quality assurance processes, including quality control workflows and observing the standards set out in the quality management system. Experience within a UKAS-accredited laboratory setting is essential.

- Perform PoCT diagnostics: Operate and maintain Point of Care Testing devices in line with laboratory and clinical protocols.
- Quality control and EQA: Conduct routine quality checks on PoCT instruments to maintain accuracy. Follow calibration and equipment maintenance protocols, troubleshoot issues, and liaise with managers for technical support. Perform EQA analysis where appropriate. Contribute to facilities maintenance and laboratory day-to-day management.
- Collaboration: Work closely with DocTap’s doctors and clinical directors to provide a stellar health assessment and diagnostic service. Communicate results in real-time, allowing for rapid patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Safety standards: Follow strict protocols to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Data entry and record-keeping: Accurately document test results and maintain patient records. Utilise electronic health record systems to ensure proper integration of diagnostic data.
- Training and development: Stay up-to-date with the latest PoCT regulatory standards to ensure best practices.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational background: A degree in Biomedical Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a clinical laboratory or PoCT setting.
- Postgraduate recent experience working in an accredited laboratory.
- Familiarity with ISO15189 accreditation for laboratories and/or ISO22870 for PoCT.
- Excellent understanding of the requirements of a quality management system.
- Good understanding of risk management and laboratory health and safety.
- Technical proficiency:
- Familiarity with laboratory machinery and instruments, and their maintenance.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with minimal supervision.
- Good computer literacy and knowledge of data protection.
- Attention to detail: Strong focus on accuracy and quality to ensure reliable test results.
- Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with the clinical team and report findings.
Preferred/Desirable Skills:
- Regulatory knowledge: Good understanding of UKAS laboratory regulations.
- Quality management experience or working towards quality management development.
- Experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and health and safety measures.
