Optical Lab Technician

Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Key Requirements

Applicants must meet the following essential requirements:

  • 1–2 years’ experience working in an optical lab experience
  • Strong understanding of glazing and frame handling
  • Strong experience with edging glasses frames this is a must
  • Experience reading prescriptions and lens/frame specifications
  • Ability to operate glazing and optical lab machinery
  • Good knowledge of optical equipment and processes
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication and customer service skills

Role Overview

As an Optical Lab Technician, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day lab activities, glazing optical frames, processing customer prescriptions, and ensuring orders are completed accurately and efficiently.

This role requires strong technical knowledge, precision, and the ability to work within a fast-paced distribution and laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out manual edging and assemble and glaze lenses into frames
  • Safely operate glazing and optical machinery
  • Select and prepare appropriate lenses for customer orders
  • Maintain and operate optical lab equipment and tools
  • Carry out minor repairs and adjustments to frames
  • Maintain stock control of frames, sunglasses, and lab materials
  • Work to agreed timeframes to meet customer expectations
  • Assist with picking, packing, and movement of stock
  • Support the distribution team with additional tasks when required

Working Hours

40 hours per week (5 days per week) based on the rota, scheduled within the department’s working hours:

  • Monday – Sunday: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM / 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM / 2:30 PM - 9:00 PM
