About us

The Institute of Infection, Immunity and Transplantation (IIT) is Department of the UCL Faculty of Medical Sciences comprising approximately 170 staff, including 40 academic/teaching faculty and 14 facilities or administrative support staff. We undertake discovery/translational research and teaching in the immunology of health and disease, and in pathogen biology. We are predominantly situated at the UCL Hampsted Campus within the Pears Building and UCL laboratories withing the Royal Free Hospital Building.

About the role

To provide operational support for the use of the Sequencing platform technologies within the IIT, including maintenance of equipment, user training, providing technical advice for experimental design and data analysis. The unit focuses on development and implementation of single cell and bulk sequencing of immune cells from blood and tissue samples. Experience of NGS library preparation is required. Basic knowledge of immunology preferred. Experience of single cell seqeuncing desirable. The post holder will be expected to interact with multiple users from within the Division, and externally.

About you

The performance objectives include :


1. To provide operational support for the use of the Sequencing platform technologies within the IIT, including maintenance of equipment, user training, providing technical advice for experimental design and data analysis. The unit focuses on single cell and bulk sequencing of immune cells from blood and tissue samples, especially T cell and B cell receptors.
2. To support the financial and operational management of platform technologies in Flow Cytometry, Imaging and Sequencing within the IIT.
3. To support strategic planning for the future development and maintenance of the platform technologies within the IT, working with the IIT Director and senior research faculty.
4. To act as a Deputy Safety Officer for the IIT, coordinating databases for hazardous and regulated substances in the laboratories, disposal of chemical waste and laboratory equipment in an environmentally responsible way, facilitating regular risk assessment reviews.
5. To work as part of a team with the heads of departments and principal investigators to achieve the strategic objectives of the IIT.
6. To support the maintenance and security of the IIT estate, coordinating with UCL Estates as required.
