The Role
Specters is seeking an experienced Clinical Negligence Solicitor to join our busy and growing specialist clinical negligence Department.
We have several large international insurer clients, and the role would suit lawyers with expertise in defending healthcare professionals, representing doctors in GMC fitness to practice proceedings, advising on healthcare regulatory matters and appearing at coronial inquests.
The successful candidate will be joining a successful team of lawyers based in Farringdon in the City of London who manage clinical negligence claims and deliver exceptional client services to insurers, medical professionals and healthcare organisations.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and capable Solicitor to manage their own caseload of defendant clinical negligence matters, while also supporting the Director and wider team on complex and high-value cases. The successful candidate will play a key role in progressing claims efficiently, achieving strong outcomes for clients, and delivering an exceptional standard of client care.

The role can be offered on a full-time permanent basis, although we would also consider reduced hours over five days per week for the right candidate. We are also open to considering contractor arrangements, depending on experience, availability and business requirements.
We operate a hybrid working model and are open to discussing flexible working arrangements. For the right candidate, we would also consider a predominantly remote working arrangement, subject to business needs, the requirement to attend hearings, supervision requirements and the candidate’s level of experience.

- The ability to manage deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Confidence liaising with clients, experts, counsel, defendants and other professionals
- Commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach to case strategy
- A proactive, professional and solutions-focused approach
- A genuine interest in defendant clinical negligence work
- Advocacy experience is desirable.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing their own caseload of defendant clinical negligence claims from inception to conclusion
- Advising clients on merits, liability, causation and quantum
- Drafting legal documents including correspondence, witness statements, schedules, pleadings and court documents
- Instructing counsel and expert witnesses
- Conducting liability and quantum investigations
- Liaising with clients, experts, counsel, defendants and insurers

- Supporting the Director and senior colleagues on complex and high-value matters
- Preparing cases for trial and attending hearings where appropriate
- Undertaking advocacy where suitably experienced
- Ensuring files are managed in line with firm procedures, compliance obligations and regulatory requirements
- Maintaining accurate records on the case management system

Working Hours
The role is available on a full-time basis, working 37.5 hours per week, based on 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
We would also consider reduced hours over five days per week for the right candidate.
Contractor arrangements may also be considered, subject to experience, availability, terms and business needs.
From time to time, a degree of flexibility may be required to work beyond agreed working hours to meet urgent business needs.
