Quality, Risk and Assurance OfficerAbout the Role

Gray Healthcare is looking for an ambitious and motivated Quality, Risk & Assurance Officer to help drive continuous improvement, strengthen organisational oversight, and ensure the people we support receive the highest possible standards of care.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced Health and Social Care Manager, Registered Manager, Service Manager, Operations Manager or Quality Manager who is looking to use their operational experience to drive quality improvement, governance, risk management and assurance across a specialist provider.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing specialist provider and play a key role in quality improvement, risk management and independent assurance across the organisation. Working closely with operational and clinical teams, you will provide objective scrutiny, identify areas for improvement, support services to reduce risk, and ensure learning is translated into better outcomes for the people we support.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate significant experience within Health and Social Care and a strong understanding of CQC-regulated services. Applications from candidates whose experience has been gained solely within laboratory, healthcare administration, regulatory, compliance or non-social care environments are unlikely to meet the requirements of the role.

Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Assurance and Improvement

• Conduct quality assurance reviews and audits across services.
• Evaluate compliance with CQC regulations and organisational standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve quality, safety and outcomes.
• Support services to develop and implement effective improvement plans.
• Measure and evidence the impact of quality improvement initiatives.
• Help ensure consistent standards across all services.

Risk Management and Safety

• Review incidents, safeguarding concerns, complaints and quality indicators to identify emerging risks.
• Support the development, maintenance and oversight of organisational and service-level risk registers.
• Monitor risk controls and action plans to ensure risks are effectively mitigated.
• Escalate concerns where quality or safety standards may be compromised.
• Promote a proactive approach to risk management across the organisation.

Assurance and Governance

• Provide independent assurance regarding the effectiveness of quality, safety and governance arrangements.
• Undertake audits, reviews and "check the checker" activities to validate first-line assurance processes.
• Support compliance with Regulation 17 (Good Governance) and other relevant regulatory requirements.
• Produce clear reports providing assurance to senior leaders regarding quality, risk and compliance.
• Ensure quality assurance activity creates a robust and auditable evidence trail demonstrating compliance, improvement and impact.

Data, Analysis and Insight

• Analyse information from audits, incidents, safeguarding, restrictive practice, complaints and governance systems.
• Identify trends, themes, emerging risks and examples of good practice.
• Produce meaningful reports and recommendations that support decision-making and service improvement.
• Use data to evidence improvements in quality, safety and outcomes.

Learning and Organisational Development

• Promote a culture of openness, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Share learning from incidents, quality reviews and best practice.
• Support managers through coaching, feedback and constructive challenge.
• Encourage reflective practice and learning across the organisation.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Minimum three years' management experience within Health and Social Care.
• Experience working within CQC-regulated services.
• Strong understanding of CQC regulations and quality standards.
• Experience of quality assurance, audit, governance, compliance, risk management or service improvement activities.
• Experience reviewing incidents, safeguarding concerns, complaints or organisational risks.
• Strong report-writing and analytical skills.
• Ability to provide supportive challenge and constructive feedback to managers and teams.

Desirable Experience

• Current or previous Registered Manager experience.
• Experience as a Service Manager, Operations Manager or Quality Manager.
• Experience supporting people with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism or acquired brain injury.
• Experience of supporting CQC inspections and regulatory compliance activity.
