About us
We are a growing London dental group providing high quality mixed NHS and private dentistry. Our practices are united by a commitment to safe, compassionate and accessible patient care, strong clinical governance, an excellent patient experience and sustainable, ethical growth.
This is a dynamic, fast moving role within an ambitious and evolving group. We are seeking an experienced Dental Area Operations Manager who can hit the ground running: someone comfortable moving between priorities, making sound decisions, supporting teams through change and turning strategy into consistent operational delivery.
You will initially lead and develop a portfolio of 3–4 London practices, subject to growth. The portfolio, priorities and scope of the role will evolve as the group acquires, integrates and opens further practices.
The role
You will be accountable for operational performance, people leadership, quality and compliance, NHS contract delivery, private practice growth and the successful mobilisation or integration of new practices. You will work closely with Practice Managers, clinicians and central support teams to ensure high standards, strong patient access and sustainable performance across the group.
This is a hands on multi site leadership role. It requires resilience, pace, excellent judgement and a practical willingness to work alongside local teams to solve problems, embed improvements and maintain standards.
Key responsibilities
· Lead, coach and line manage Practice Managers across a portfolio of 3–4 London practices, subject to growth.
· Establish clear objectives, conduct regular one to ones and performance reviews, and identify development and succession needs within the practice management team.
· Drive safe, patient centred and commercially sustainable performance across mixed NHS and private practices.
· Take ownership of NHS dental performance across the portfolio, including activity forecasting, delivery against contractual requirements, UDA monitoring, claims and data quality, underperformance risk, recovery planning and timely escalation.
· Work closely with Practice Managers and clinicians to ensure NHS patients can access timely, appropriate care and that local systems support safe, efficient delivery.
· Monitor and improve key performance indicators, including revenue, NHS contract delivery, chair utilisation, diary efficiency, private treatment conversion, patient access, recall and rebooking, cancellations, failed appointments, staffing costs and local profitability.
· Work with clinical and treatment coordination teams to support ethical private treatment growth and an excellent end to end patient journey.
· Maintain group wide standards of regulatory readiness and evidence based compliance, including CQC requirements, infection prevention and control, decontamination, safeguarding, health and safety, complaints, incident reporting, information governance and data protection.
· Conduct structured practice visits, audits and performance reviews, ensuring that action plans are clear, owned, time bound and effectively completed.
· Act as an escalation point for complex operational, people, patient experience and compliance matters, involving the Operations Director, Clinical Director, HR or other specialist support where appropriate.
· Partner with central Finance, HR, Marketing, IT and Clinical Governance colleagues to implement group policies, reporting and improvement initiatives.
· Support practice acquisitions, onboarding and new practice openings, including operational due diligence, mobilisation planning, systems implementation, staff engagement and post launch stabilisation.
· Prepare accurate and concise reports for the Operations Director, identifying performance trends, material risks, improvement opportunities and decisions required.
· Promote a respectful, inclusive and accountable culture in which colleagues feel supported to raise concerns and improve services.
Essential experience and skills
· Demonstrable multi site operational leadership experience within the dental sector; dental group, regional or area management experience is strongly preferred.
· A thorough and current practical understanding of NHS dentistry is essential. This must include NHS dental contractual arrangements, activity and UDA management, claims and data requirements, patient charge processes, access obligations, performance monitoring, underperformance risk and recovery planning.
· Strong practical understanding of private dental practice operations, including patient enquiry, consultation, treatment coordination and treatment plan conversion pathways.
· Experience of leading, coaching and performance managing Practice Managers and wider non clinical teams.
· Proven ability to use operational and financial data to improve patient access, patient experience, efficiency and financial outcomes.
· Sound working knowledge of CQC requirements, dental governance, HTM 01 05, GDPR and core employment management processes.
· Experience of change management, practice integration, acquisition support, new site mobilisation or system/process implementation is desirable.
· Excellent judgement, communication, stakeholder management and problem solving skills.
· Confidence using dental practice management and reporting systems, such as Software of Excellence or an equivalent platform.
· A proactive, adaptable and solutions focused approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively in a changing environment.
· Flexibility to travel regularly between London practices.
What we offer
· £55,000–£65,000 base salary, depending on experience.
· Pension and annual leave
· A mobile and hybrid working model, subject to the operational needs of the practices.
· The opportunity to make a material contribution to the growth and operating model of an ambitious London dental group.
Pre employment checks
Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work checks, DBS clearance where required and any other checks appropriate to the role.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates. Reasonable adjustments are available throughout the recruitment process.
