Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and manufacture optical thin film coatings to meet customer and internal specifications.
  • Support of existing coating processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Review coating requirements for new product introduction, working closely with the optical design team.
  • Generate technical documentation to support the manufacture and quality control of coatings.
  • Deliver coating development projects to expand our capability and explore new applications.
  • Identify new coating techniques and technologies to support the coating technology roadmap.
  • Carry out measurement, analysis and qualification testing on coating samples.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree (masters preferred) in physics, chemistry, materials science or other relevant discipline.
  • Clear technical communication skills including logbooks, presentations and report writing.
  • Creative approach to problem solving.
  • Good software skills and able to learn new software quickly.
  • Adept using Microsoft Excel including mathematical formulas and plotting graphs.
  • Confident with practical hands-on work and use-of machinery and equipment.

Desirable

  • Specific knowledge of optics or thin film coating would be a considerable advantage.
  • Ability to write code for simple computer programs and scripts would be useful.
  • Experience using analytical techniques and equipment such as electron microscopes, optical microscopes, interferometers or spectrometers.
  • Experience using computer-controlled machinery and equipment.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on advanced optical systems in a high‑technology environment.
  • A collaborative engineering culture with strong links between design, manufacture and test.
  • Professional development and skills growth within a specialist engineering discipline.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
