Receptionist/Administrator – NHS GP PracticeJob Summary
We are seeking an experienced Receptionist/Administrator to join our busy NHS GP Practice. This is a key front-line role, providing a professional, efficient and welcoming service to patients while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the Practice. The successful candidate will work closely with GPs, nurses and the wider Practice team to deliver a high standard of patient care and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and visitors in a professional, courteous and friendly manner, providing a high standard of customer service.
- Manage patient appointments, including booking, amending and cancelling appointments using SystmOne.
- Answer telephone calls, respond to patient enquiries and direct messages to the appropriate member of the Practice team.
- Process online patient triage requests, home visit requests and prescription requests in accordance with Practice procedures.
- Complete referrals, correspondence and administrative tasks accurately, ensuring information is recorded correctly within patient records.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records while ensuring compliance with GDPR and Practice policies.
- Support clinicians and the wider Practice team with day-to-day administrative tasks.
- Prepare consulting rooms as required and help maintain clean, safe and organised reception and waiting areas.
- Support opening and closing procedures of the Practice.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses and colleagues to provide an efficient and effective service to patients.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working as a Receptionist or Receptionist/Administrator within an NHS GP Practice.
- Experience using SystmOne.
- Experience using Accurx.
- Good understanding of NHS General Practice processes, including appointments, patient registration, repeat prescriptions and referrals.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
- Excellent IT, keyboard and administrative skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm, professional and compassionate under pressure.
- A thorough understanding of patient confidentiality and GDPR requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
