Full job description

We are looking for an experience, professional and enthusiastic Medical Secretary to join our team on a maternity cover basis. The contract is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the administrative department and maintaining a high standard of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing efficient administrative and secretarial support to clinicians and the wider medical team.
  • Processing patient referrals and correspondence using patient clinical records via SystmOne as well as dealing with the appointment system as and when required by the practice.
  • Preparing clinical letters, reports and other documentation.
  • Liaising professionally with patients, GPs, hospitals and other healthcare professionals.
  • Managing telephone and email enquiries in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Maintaining accurate patient information and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Supporting the day-to-day organisation and smooth running of the department.
  • Work closely with the secretarial Team Leader to ensure that the administrative procedures are followed and the practice’s standards are met.
  • Undertaking general administrative duties as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in a medical secretary in general practice, preferably with SystmOne knowledge.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident when communicating with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Able to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
  • Professional, approachable and reliable.
  • IT literate, with good knowledge of Microsoft Office and SystmOne.
  • Committed to maintaining patient confidentiality and providing excellent customer service.
