Full job description

Healthcare Assistant/ GP Medical Administrator (including Reception)

Florence Road Surgery – Ealing, London
20–36 hours per week | Permanent | Part-time or Full-time

Florence Road Surgery is looking for a reliable, flexible and enthusiastic person to join our friendly GP practice team in a varied hybrid role combining reception, administrative and Healthcare Assistant (HCA) duties.

This would suit someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable working with patients, and is happy to support different areas of the practice depending on the needs of the service.

The Role

The successful candidate will work across three main areas:

Reception

  • Welcoming patients and dealing with enquiries professionally and sensitively
  • Answering telephone and online enquiries
  • Booking and managing appointments
  • Signposting patients to the appropriate service or member of the clinical team
  • Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of reception

Healthcare Assistant duties

  • Carrying out appropriate HCA duties following training and competency assessment
  • Taking blood pressure, height, weight and other basic observations
  • Phlebotomy and other clinical duties where appropriately trained
  • Supporting health checks and long-term condition monitoring
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records
  • Supporting clinicians and the wider practice team

Administration

  • Processing correspondence and patient information
  • Updating patient records
  • Supporting referrals, registrations and other practice administration
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks as required

Hours and Flexibility

We can offer between 20 and 36 hours per week, depending on the successful candidate and the needs of the practice.

Flexibility is an essential requirement of this role.

Our working day includes early and late shifts. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Be available to open the practice at 7:45am when rostered for an early shift
  • Work occasional late shifts finishing at 8:00pm
  • Be flexible in moving between reception, administration and HCA duties
  • Provide reasonable flexibility to support colleagues and service requirements

Because opening and closing the practice depends on staff being present at the correct time, excellent punctuality and reliability are essential. Candidates should only apply if they are confident they can consistently arrive on time for early starts and fulfil agreed shift commitments.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, professional and patient-focused
  • Exceptionally reliable and punctual
  • Flexible and willing to help wherever needed
  • Calm and organised in a busy environment
  • Confident communicating with patients both face-to-face and by telephone
  • Comfortable using computers and learning new systems
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Respectful of confidentiality and able to handle sensitive information appropriately

Previous experience in general practice, healthcare, reception or administration would be an advantage.

Previous HCA experience, including phlebotomy, is essential. The successful candidate should already be trained and competent in relevant HCA duties, with the right attitude, reliability and flexibility to work across reception, administration and clinical support.
